Tonight I was checking a few profiles over at Last.fm, when I noticed someone listening heavily to UK indie/twee pop duo Pipas. Somehow I've never heard of them, but since I'm a fan of the genre, and saw that the band has been mentioned by several other bloggers, I thought it was a good idea to check them out. And I wasn't disappointed, because the duo (consisting of Lupe Núñez-Fernández & Mark Powell) writes short, sweet and catchy melodies. And the remix of The Lucksmiths' How To Tie a Tie is obviously a pleasant "bonus". Pipas has released 4 albums so far, and a few more tracks can be found here.
+ Riff Raff
+ Wells Street
+ The Lucksmiths - how to tie a tie (like a churros mix - remixed by Pipas)

It's a shame - the Pipas had planned to play in Kiel these days but the gig was cancelled now... :-(
PIPAS IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH BELLE AND SEBASTIAN , CAMERA OBSCURA , RADIO DEPT , ACID HOUSE KINGS , TREMBLING BLUE STARS/FIELD MICE. LISTENING TO PIPAS IS A MAGICALLY HEAVENLY EXPERIENCE!
JESS FROM THE PHILIPPINES
Pipas are officially: "The Flakiest Band On The Planet!" - they cancel more shows then almost any band I know of. Way overrated!
well, tough luck. just buy their albums and enjoy the music. that's all that matter.
scott i think you´re being too hard on them. pipas had to cancel the boston popfest because the promoters only gave them a 100 dollar offer (and oversea flights were close to 600) ! i guess being a two person band means they don´t get the sort of guarantees bigger bands can usually take for granted. the show in kiel didn´t happen due to a promoter´s decision as well. hopefully they´ll tour again soon.
