But...

the computer at work isn't...and I promise that I'll be back posting for real (or whatever you'd call what I'm doing) tomorrow!

Various bits (part II)...

I mentioned Bristol band The Felts and their cover of Enjoy The Silence in my recent “Sunday music” post. Really owe to tell that the band’s own track The Connoisseur is worth a listen.
The Connoisseur

The 12 track VUF compilation #6 is now up for grabs. For free of course and features interesting artists like Sleep Party People and I Got You On Tape to mention a few. It's quite good btw!

The steady flow of new (free) and amazing releases by EardrumsPop continues.
+ Baffin Island - You Invited Me

Stream the nice debut single Bollywood by The Olympics, which was released last week by Speed of Sound.

That's all I'm afraid...

Various bits...

Champagne Riot writes that the track Moonstruck has been added to the P3 playlist. And indeed it’s true. In the same post they add that they (like the rest of us) have given up on Myspace!
Moonstruck

Anyone heard of (or perhaps remember) Kind of girl; a band I used to hype? If you haven’t, now is a good time to say hello as every track released by the band is free to download at last.fm. Come to think of it; the band has been awfully quiet for a long time.
+ Poetry Boy

More than once I’ve asked myself if The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is capable of doing anything wrong. Now that I’ve finally (as probably the last living soul on the planet) given new single Heart In Your Heartbreak a listen the question still rings true.
Heart In Your Heartbreak

The sophomore release (which conveniently will be titled just that) by Bubbegum Lemonade will be out on Matinée Recordings on Monday (November 29). Two intriguing promo tracks are available to sweeten the wait.
+ Caroline's Radio
+ You Only Leave Twice

If you scroll down you’ll see that I’ve (once again) added Google ads to the right column. I believe the deal is that I’m not allowed to encourage anyone to click the ads, so I won’t...

Check back for part II tomorrow.

Tetris=Therapy and the viral challenge...

Kasper of fabulous, but sadly overlooked, Danish band Tetris=Therapy has written an interesting (rather funny and somewhat sarcastic) piece on how the band failed “going viral” (trying to stomach the fact that the video for Seasick has been viewed a measly 1,830 times on youtube). All leading to a statement that they best way to promote just about anything virally on the interweb these days is to include pictures of adorable kittens. A hard lesson has clearly been learned, so with no further ado; this is the new promotional video for the CD release of the band’s debut album Acquaintances.
P.S. Who's Justin Bieber?????

Zimmerman...

Finally...the video for the new and absolutely brilliant Entakt single!

Sunday music...

Some music and a few (very few) words.

+ Psychic Powers - Brighter
Excellent track sounding like something that could have been released by Sarah Records.

+ The Felts - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode cover)
Pretty good cover, though I doubt this is a track anyone could ruin.

+ Mariage Blanc - Whatever You Say I AmThese lads write seriously catchy songs.

+ Bleeding Heart Narrative - Perun
So unbelievably cool, but people at last.fm seem to have some difficulties tagging the band!

+ California Wives - Purple
Stupid band name, but a great indie-pop-post-punk-new-wave (somewhere in-between) song!

OMD vs. The xx...

Never been a fan of cover versions and probably never will be. But from time to time a few interesting do come along and (my) childhood heroes OMD covering The xx certainly wasn’t something I saw coming. Isn’t the normal procedure that new upcoming bands cover songs by bands they’ve been influenced by? And not the other way round? But nice for a change! Although OMD has labeled it “rough mix”, their cover of VCR sounds like it could easily be a lost track from one of their recording sessions 30 years ago. Doesn't it?

News from the valley...

Stream premixes of three tracks from the forthcoming Death Valley Sleepers debut album below. Still no news on when and how the album will be released, but judging from the premixes the album will definitely be worth the wait.

Breakfast of Champions...

Boston quartet Breakfast of Champions mailed me earlier this week suggesting that with my ongoing crush on The National (surprisingly someone out there was actually paying attention!) I should perhaps try giving their music a listen as well. Since they’ve actually read a few words before mailing I thought why not check them out. However now that I’ve listened numerous times to the four tracks available (all of them free to download at bandcamp), I still have to figure out how exactly The National comes into the picture. I’m not being snide or anything, because I'm honestly enjoying the music of Breakfast of Champions. But especially the recently published (and quite brilliant) track London Fashion has a sort of melancholic sound that reminds me far more of I Like Trains than of The National. Then again; you could perhaps say that there is a slight hint of said band on a track like The City? Always been absolutely hopeless at this, so check the band out and decide for yourself what they sound like. It always works better that way!
+ London Fashion
+ The City

Bigger than us...

Bigger Than Us is the first single from the forthcoming White Lies album Ritual (out on January 17). The video is both strange and funny, but cannot really hide that the song is weaker than any track on the debut. The band will be at KB-Hallen on March 1 (just bought tickets; disappointing first single or not).

On the radio this morning...

As mentioned a few weeks ago. This is one of just two decent songs released by the band since the incomparable Violator.

Every morning when the girls and I are having breakfast the radio is on, and from time to time it does happen that some really fine stuff is aired, thus helping to make the start of the day a good one. The “On the radio this morning” posts are my humble attempt to make your start a good one as well!

It’s (not yet) Christmas...

Think I will stick to tradition and wait until December 1 before posting my annual Christmas post. And as hard as it may be, I’m trying not to listen to any of previous year’s Christmas favorites either prior to that day. However I’m going to somewhat bend my own rules and post an early heads up on what arguably will be the most interesting Christmas compilation of 2010; The Matinée Holiday Soirée featuring seasonal tracks by 5 different artists (Math And Physics Club, Northern Portrait, Strawberry Whiplash, Bubblegum Lemonade plus newcomer Champagne Riot) from the Matinée roster. To be released sometime in December, but if you're impatient just like me, the (stunningly brilliant) EP can be streamed in its entirety from the Matinée page. Thank you Stefan for keeping me updated...

A murder mystery...

The nice people in New York quartet Murder Mystery gives away brand new track Problems, and in the same breath adds that they like to think of it “as Aphex Twin meets Madonna”. I’d probably add a twist of Pet Shop Boys to that description, but in the end; does anyone really care about descriptions, as long as a song is this gorgeous? And Problems just happens to be one of those (really rare, but absolutely) lovely and instantly catchy songs you wish you’d come across more often...
+ Problems

On the radio this morning...

Not In Love by this rather interesting constellation has been chosen as the "unavoidable" track of the week by Danish P3. The track is free to download at RCRD LBL and I can only recommend that you grab it! No "real" video seem to be available, so this will have to do!

Cleaning...

Been too busy listening to a certain band this week (promised not to mention their name for some time), meaning that I've ignored everything else sent my way. So I'm going to spend the next hour (maybe more, maybe less) cleaning out the mailbox. The good stuff (if any) will end up here.

+ Young Galaxy - Peripheral Visionaries
+ Modern Skirts - Bumper Car
+ Simian Ghost - Transparent Is OK
+ High Highs - Open Season

Over and out...

Last night...

Obviously the quality of the video isn't the best, but this was a bloody marvellous experience. And these (I promise) will be my last words on The National for quite some time.

On the radio this morning...

Almost impossible to express how much I’m looking forward to the concert tonight. As Anyone’s Ghost was on just before 7 o’clock this morning the timing of P3, once again, was impeccable.

If you didn’t download the cover by Silver Swans of the track the first time I posted it, this is your (second) chance. Not half as good as the original version, but that has more to do with the quality of the original.

Various bits...

Been feeling awful since Friday, but seems like the cold is retreating. Perfect timing, as I’m going to see The National at KB-Hallen tomorrow night. Wouldn’t really be the same if I was sneezing, coughing and having a stuffy nose! Should be (definitely will be) a blast!

+ Fake Empire

New single Zimmerman by Entakt has been added to the P3 and P4 playlists. Unfortunately it's yet not available for streaming (or buying if anyone does that anymore) anywhere, but the video for the song will be published next Saturday (November 20). Worth noting as the band has have difficulties in the past getting airplay!

This is somewhat unusual. A Danish band singing in Danish has a song remixed by a fellow Dane. OK perhaps that’s not quite unusual. But said remix being released by a major US music website certainly is! Though you can of course argue that no one understands a word what Under Byen is singing anyway, thus making the whole "singing in Danish" part irrelevant. Download the Kasper Bjørke remix of Alt Er Tabt at Stereogum.

On the radio this morning...

Rather surprised to hear this one as it was released (made available to the public) less than two weeks ago. Mind you that P3 in one of the largest radio stations in Denmark with a share of 34% of the listeners between the ages of 12 and 50. But still they continue having their fingers on the pulse and unlike the commercial radio stations they are not afraid of playing upcoming and somewhat lesser known (to the masses) acts. That said; they did play Lady Gaga as well this morning, but no way am I going to post anything by her.

This and that...

So I ended up not going to the Warpaint concert last night after all. I’m dead tired today, so going would probably have killed me. And staying at home watching the Champions League game between FC København and FC Barcelona wasn’t the worst imaginable alternative. Check Frank's review of the Warpaint debut album The Fool.

Pitchfork shares the lead track of the forthcoming single by Acid House Kings. Are We Lovers or Are We Friends? is the first new release by the band since ages. Out on Labrador on December 7 and right now I’m just waiting for the mandatory promo mail and the free download!

Update: Here we go...
+ Are We Lovers or Are We Friends?

Tempomatador shares the pre-mix of new track Det har jeg lært (så det er sandt). Actually the song is not quite new, as it's an updated (and even better) version of De sidste glade dage af Romerriget, which was originally recorded under the alias Mikkel Max og Drømmenes Bodega. The band seems to be gaining momentum and will be playing at Rust on Saturday and at Huset on November 17.
