Borderline…

Is it ok as a blogger to accept money to make you post/feature a song/video? Last week I received a mail offering me money if I posted a video, but so far I’ve been very hesitant and haven’t replied. I honestly believe that accepting this kind of offer must be the quickest way to loose any credibility I might have, though there’s obviously nothing wrong about money. Perhaps it could be turned into a somewhat more acceptable situation if I wrote that it’s a “sponsored” post and that the song/video doesn’t reflect my taste? And perhaps it could not? And how difference is this really from all the free CD's you receive and expected to review/feature? But quite interesting if this will be the future of MP3 blogging?
So what I’ve decided to do is NOT replying to the mail, and instead I'm simply posting the song and video without getting one cent for my efforts. Check it out if you like – it’s a rather repetitive techno/electronic track by UK DJ duo (?) OrtzRoka called Planets. Not really my cup of tea, but then again; I’ve certainly listened to stuff a whole lot worse than this!

I've received the same mail and refused to post the video since I don't like the idea of being paid for promoting stuff (even though I desperatly need the money). As you said, this will destroy any credibility of our blogs.

Apart from that I definitely detest that this promotion company is also spreading the word of some of the transnational companies like Nike, Pepsi, Disney, Microsoft, MTV, whose marketing efforts / logos / brands are detoriating free public space and media democracy and who are polluting airwaves and television and the whole planet with their advertisements, "shiny superstores" and superficial crappy products. So a cooperation with these guys is completely impossible for me. (see also: http://www.adbusters.org)

I'm not quite sure why you posted the song anyway if you don't really like it...? So the promo company reached their goal (spreading this song) but won't have to pay you - seems the perfect solution for them! ;-)

I have a week spot for unsigned bands - and despite their "strategy" of paying, I still thought I'd give a helping hand, and hope that the chosen "strategy" has something to do with "not knowing better"...

It's a bit weird that an unsigned artist spends money on paying this advertising company and not contacting the bloggers directly, me thinks... Of course I've a weak spot for small and unsigned bands too :-) but I can not support these companies that are trying to push all kond of things/products (and now even music) into the world ...

I'm a little puzzled as to why you posted this video also. Must admit I'd run a mile if I'd gotten that email - unless I really liked it, in which case I'd driving my shiny new porsche! Thanks for all the great mp3s of late.
