Purple...

Stream or download the new single from the much hyped (and really brilliant) California Wives...actually it's not a new track but instead a new (and highly competent) version of old track Purple!

Marianne...

Blink and the good ones are taken. Been away from the computer for a couple of days, meaning that I’m a bit late posting this new track by California Wives…which I believe they are giving away to sort of celebrate that they’ve been signed to Vagrant Records. Being late or not, I just have to post it; for a number of reasons. First and foremost it simply needs to be shared, because California Wives is one of the best and most interesting new bands around (despite that horrible, horrible band name). Everything put out by the band so far has been stunningly brilliant and new track Marianne is no exception, being a real catchy indie-pop-new-wave kind of thing. Furthermore the title reminds of a rather wonderful girl I once knew, whose name was…you guessed it…Marianne, whom I actually dreamt of marrying (though I never got around asking her that big question). Sadly (and luckily) things never worked out as I hoped they would, so we split, and a few years later I met another girl (even more wonderful), and this one I did in fact end up marrying. And nearly 12 years later we still are! But Marianne still has this little soft spot in my heart…

Cover me in purple...

Pitchfork has discovered California Wives. The band’s sudden (and much deserved) growth in popularity has (fortunately) increased the traffic to this blog as well.

+ Tokyo

Try not to be confused; The Boombox Hearts’ cover of Cover Me (the Bruce Springsteen song) has been covered by Cover Me (the music blog).

New 7” single There’s Something About Mary by The Hit Parade will be out on JSH Records on May 2nd. It’s a really nice though rather typical indie pop song, but the B-side tribute to Brighter is (in my opinion as always) actually the superior track of the two. Stream both songs below and make up your own mind (works better that way).

California wives in Tokyo...?

I still think California Wives is a stupid band name, but who honestly gives a toss when the band’s music is downright brilliant? I posted the super catchy Purple (which I described as an indie-pop-post-punk-new-wave (somewhere in-between) song) some months ago and the band’s recent track Tokyo is an equally infectious synth-indie-new-wave-pop-whatever kind of thing. Yet another added to the list of great new bands to keep an eye on!

Sunday music...

Some music and a few (very few) words.

+ Psychic Powers - Brighter
Excellent track sounding like something that could have been released by Sarah Records.

+ The Felts - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode cover)
Pretty good cover, though I doubt this is a track anyone could ruin.

+ Mariage Blanc - Whatever You Say I AmThese lads write seriously catchy songs.

+ Bleeding Heart Narrative - Perun
So unbelievably cool, but people at last.fm seem to have some difficulties tagging the band!

+ California Wives - Purple
Stupid band name, but a great indie-pop-post-punk-new-wave (somewhere in-between) song!
