This and that...

J.A. is really high on the track Over You by Swedish electronic/synth pop one-man project Killing Game. And it certainly is an incredible and very catchy song that must be among the best I've heard so far this year. Unfortunately it's not available for download, so streaming will have to do for now.

In a recent interview Avi of It's A Trap lists Hits In The Car as one of his top 3 music blogs. Thank you Avi and trust me when I say that I'm truly, truly flattered.

I did a little search over at Myspace today and somehow stumbled upon Swedish part-time project/duo Sons of Brother Justin. Once you listen to these two great indie/shoegaze/dream pop inspired tracks, I feel pretty certain that you'll agree that it's hard to believe that they were written and recorded in just 24 hours.

Tune of the day.....

My youngest daughter wasn't feeling all that well this morning (she had a small fever), so I decided (or rather was forced) to skip work and stay at home with her instead. Now I have just returned from a lengthy walk (with a quick stop for a cup of coffee), while she was sleeping in the perambulator (yeah - it's called that!) and during my walk I was constantly humming/singing I Love The Avenue by Salem. Not exactly because the streets of my hometown could be mistaken for avenues, but simply because it's such a wonderful, majestic, grandiose and utterly gorgeous song which is simply perfect to have "running" in the back of your head, when you're walking with the wind straight in the face. And since it is Spil Dansk Dag in Denmark today, I think it's appropriate to suggest that you check out the band's recent release called Nord1, which contains 12 tracks all sung in Danish (the album is wonderful, but probably requires some knowledge on Danish/Scandinavian music traditions? I mean - how many of you are familiar with Kai Normann Andersen, Evert Taube or Svante?).

Salem...

I think my first reaction when I listened to the music of Danish band Salem was something like "what on earth is this?", because it didn't really sound like anything I'd normally listen to. Then I took a further look at the band's description of the music and suddenly everything made more sense. According to that, the band writes the music with a never filmed Spaghetti Western in mind and it's the ambition of the band to be featured on the soundtrack of Tarantino movie, which I believe is a very plausible explanation for the sound the band has adopted/created. Lots of bands have ridiculous ambitions, but for once I think that a band has a (more than) fair chance of fulfilling its dream. Because not only are the songs very good (a couple of listens are required, but they really grow on you), but they also create exactly the right atmosphere and illusions in your mind! Two major Danish newspapers listed the album From The Riverbank among the 10 best Danish albums of 2005, so I guess I'll have to give these guys a closer look!
