Blue Foundation...

Via Facebook comes news that Blue Foundation will release a new album on May 22. If there is such a thing as good news...this definitely IS good news!

Panda gigante...

So after all I’ve ended up coming to terms with not going to NYC Popfest. Next in line is accepting that I won’t be going to Indietracks either. Although the Indietracks line-up doesn’t make me drool the way it's done previous years, there will still be plenty of interesting artists performing; and probably a few gems to unearth as well. Among the unknown acts to me (prior to checking the line-up) is Papa Topo, which is described as “nothing less than a phenomenon”. Apparently I'm the only one who had never heard of them, as I was surprised to learn that they have built up quite a fanbase (6,244 fans at Facebook is a rather decent number). And the one track I’ve heard so far, Oso Panda, is actually a nice little pop song. Make that 6,245 fans!

I’ve never jumped the Bon Iver bandwagon, but new track Calgary is bloody marvelous!

Another track on heavy rotation when sitting behind the screen wasting my time at work is the perfect new single Skyll på mig by De Montevert.

In a Facebook update yesterday Blue Foundation revealed that the band has just finished recording and mixing a new song with Jonas Bjerre of Mew. I'll be hard pressed to think of a more perfect match, as the voice of Jonas should fit superbly in the musical universe of Blue Foundation.

Shorties...

Too tired to write anything serious today. As if I ever post anything remotely serious!

That The Radio Dept. concert I mentioned yesterday has yet to be officially announced by either band or venue. Logically no ticket information is available.

Tobias of Blue Foundation explains why Blue Foundation is called...well...Blue Foundation.

Still hoping that Copenhagen Popfest will announce the one band sorely missing from the otherwise intriguing line-up; Days!
+ Downhill

Play People offers a 5-track compilation entitled Better Things as a free download via Bandcamp. This is catchy and lovely pop music with a capital P!
+ Oh What A Life...

The fortunate ones attending SXSW should not miss the opportunity to see Kashmir! As well as some of the other interesting Danish names, who'll be playing, like Spleen United, Choir of Young Believers and The Kissaway Trail.
+ Surfing the warm industry

Another Dane performing will be singer-songwriter Mads Langer (though listed as being from London), whose cover of the Olive track You're Not Alone has been getting massive airplay on Danish Radio recently.

Why not grab Happy Hollows' pretty fine cover of Under The Milky Way over at You Ain't No Picasso?

Our Falling Snow...

Lots of nice words have already been written about the self-titled Sleep Party People debut album (exhibit 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and deservedly so. Adding anything to this is virtually impossible, though I cannot help being a bit baffled that the term shoegaze has been mentioned a few times. The music is indeed both dreamy and introspective, but those trademark distorted guitar sounds are really nowhere to be found. Personally I like the “modified” “electronic shoegaze” term a lot better, as my first thought, when I listened to the album, was that it was closely related to an ambient Sigur Rós universe, focusing on creating atmospheric and beautiful sounds rather than on writing memorable melody lines. However upon further listens, I’ve numerous times caught myself humming various tunes off the album, thus adding another (interesting) dimension to my first impression, as well as prompting the question; what should this be called exactly? Playful electronic pop with an experimental edge perhaps or? To be honest I really don’t care and cannot be bothered searching for (or perhaps even inventing) a more accurate description. Instead I’ll stick to what I do know; that this is a gloriously beautiful album.

Blue Foundation shares the Zeds Dead Dubstep Remix of their track Eyes on Fire.

Due to popular demand the post with download links to all (?) Death Valley Sleepers songs has been updated.

On the radio this morning...

Waking up with the sun shining and this on the radio. Only thing missing now is a cup of coffee!

Every morning when eating breakfast the radio is on, and from time to time it does happen that some really fine stuff is aired, thus helping to make the start of the day a good one. The “On the radio this morning” posts are my humble attempt to make your start a good one as well!

People Press Play and Blue Foundation...

After some domestic negotiations, I managed getting Saturday evening off, so I could join a couple of friends at our local venue to experience Blue Foundation live. As usual my hometown showed its appreciation when a lesser-known band drops by, as around 100 persons (we actually tried counting them) showed up. So the band certainly won't come around these parts again any time soon, as there cannot have been much money left for the pension fund. Overall the band delivered a fine concert and the songs work very well when performed live. Afterwards I spoke a few words with Bo of the band, but in my usual ill-mannered way I was more interested in talking to him about him being the 4th member of The William Blakes than the concert he had just been a part of.

The big revelation of the evening however was the supporting act People Press Play. No warm-up had been announced, but happy we were to spend 25 minutes listening to this talented and very interesting electronic/experimental/down-tempo quartet that really isn't such a distant musical relative to the evening's main act. And lovely it was that you had no use for earplugs during their set. Nice to finally meet a band that understands that louder isn't necessarily better. Prior to the concert People Press Play was completely unknown territory to me, so surprised I was to learn that the band had released an album last year on the German label Morr Music, - and obviously I immediately picked that one up at the merchandise boot after the concert (as well as a copy of the Sweep Of Days album by Blue Foundation). It probably will be the soundtrack of this working day, and so far this very electronic based and laid-back album has left a quite positive impression. Below the video for the lovely These Days as well as the album track Hanging On.

Chopping wood...

The past 3 days the girls and I visited some friends' at their derelict farm in Sweden, where I (when I wasn't drinking beer) spent several hours every day chopping wood. That certainly was great and much needed exercise for arms, shoulders and back, but it also (once again) made it painfully clear that my shape was a whole lot better in the old days, before I became a dad.

Speaking of Sweden, I found the new Kent album Tillbaka Till Samtiden in my mailbox last night. It definitely sounded much better in the car this morning than it did on the computer last week.

Thanks to whoever was responsible for sending me Life Of A Ghost by Blue Foundation. I've been thinking of buying this fine and somewhat Mew inspired album for quite some time now, so getting it this way was a pleasant surprise (I owe you one - whoever you are!).

Pastries, Peppers and Canals is up and running again. Hopefully for good this time!

You DID check out my first post over at Frekvens.dk. Didn't you?

The fantastic new track Rosebud by Danish indie rock trio Us With Millions is now available as a free download. Compared to Band of Horses, but in my opinion this track is better than any track of Cease To Begin. The band has sent me another new track that will be an exclusive download from the blog later this week.
