few words on the EP by NY quartet
Murder Mystery and now that the band has released their debut album, it's time to post a few more. The name of the 12 track album is
Are You Ready for the Heartache Cause Here it Comes and perhaps it's a bit on the short side with a running time of just 33 minutes. But all 12 tracks are little pop gems (I used that description the first time round as well) and certainly no time is wasted on unnecessary fillers, which makes those few minutes very well spent. The band uses the term
"Television-esque guitar arrangements" in the press material, and this is actually a fine way to describe the sound of the band (a bit more "popish" perhaps, but listen to
Marquee Moon and I'm sure you'll agree). Now if only the band hadn't removed the picture of
Peter Lorre from their webpage!

Subtle Changes
The nice people in New York quartet Murder Mystery gives away brand new track Problems, and in the same breath adds that they like to think of it “as Aphex Twin meets Madonna”. I’d probably add a twist of Pet Shop Boys to that description, but in the end; does anyone really care about descriptions, as long as a song is this gorgeous? And Problems just happens to be one of those (really rare, but absolutely) lovely and instantly catchy songs you wish you’d come across more often...
Danish duo Champagne Riot has just finished a new version of the track A Friend of a Friend and as always they boldly state that “it's really the best we've ever done”. Not really sure if I fully agree (still having a major crush on Ingrid Bergman), but in many ways the re-recording has done wonders, when comparing it to the first version, which actually was pretty good in its own rights (I doubt it is available for downloading or even streaming anywhere, so you’ll have to take my word for it). The new version is slower paced, the vocals are not nearly as a “strained” and in general has a more melancholic and beautiful feel to it. The band is planning to release it as a single some time this fall, but has kindly granted me permission to post it for a short period of time (two weeks). So I strongly suggest you grab it while it’s there!

Murder Mystery is a very interesting indie pop trio from NY, with a knack for writing catchy melodies. A four track EP was released at the end of April and it received a very nice review here. All four songs are available as downloads at the band's webpage and I strongly recommend that you check the songs out (while they are still there), because all of them are little gems!
