Friday evening...

So I missed out on (yet) another Entakt concert tonight, as I'm staying at home looking after the children. I did plenty of whining last week, so really no point in repeating that. But the next three weeks until the concert in Vanløse, you bet I’ll be checking every road for black cats before crossing, because the last thing I want to happen is that I miss out on that one as well. And please no cancellation due to a sore throat, the drummer breaking his finger(s), the bass player deciding to quit or whatever lame excuse you guys can come up with.

Danish trio Oliver North Choir will release their new download-only EP Over/Out on November 23. Two bonus tracks are already free to download and especially the duet Farvel (featuring Bakers at dawn), which untypically for the band is sung in Danish/Swedish, is an absolute beauty.

BandBase is interviewing Peter Fritzen (One Weekly Gun), who is preparing a special New Years treat for his readers. He’s currently working on a song, which symbolically (or maybe even logically) is titled One Song Every Week, and it will (is this really possible) summarize what has happened the past year on his blog. The song will be produced by Frederik Thaae (A Kid Hereafter), arranged by Jakob Faurholt and feature the The Danish National Radio’s Entertainment Orchestra. Sure sounds mighty interesting, if you ask me. This week’s track celebrates (as one could expect) the election of Barack Obama.

Letterbox Records are (almost) giving away CD’s for free. Albums by Penny Century, California Snow Story etc., can be yours for £1.99 each.

Ether & Velour...

Sometimes I cannot help thinking that life just isn't fair. I just read the great news that Ether Aura will be playing a free show on August 24th at The Berkley Front. The only, but quite significant problem is that the venue is located in Michigan, which is (at least) a 12 hours journey away from Denmark. But if you happen to be in the Detroit area next Friday don't miss the opportunity to see this fantastic band live. Below two tracks from this year's excellent album, Before We Could Sing.

+ Tell Me That I'm Nothing

According to the band's blog Entakt is currently recording new tracks. You all should know by now that I'm quite a fan, so this is great news indeed!

The catchy If You Really Want Me by Velour has been remixed by Emil Høiriss. The remix is absolutely cool, but it's really quite a shame that it's not possible to download it. Instead you can stream it here or download the original version below.
+ If You Really Want Me

Yesterday Peter posted a new track by Swedish shoegazers Fathom 5. Strongly recommend that you check it out!

Sometimes I find the Last.fm recommendation function quite amusing. This morning it suggested that I should listen to a band called Northern Portrait.........hmmm wait a second. That name does ring a bell - doesn't it?

The new and instantly loveable "free download only" single Nothing Burns Like Bridges by Penny Century is released today on Letterbox Records.

Polar Demons for a Penny???

The 6 track demo EP Hum Speed On/Off by Demons Are Real arrived in the mailbox the other day. This Danish Joy Division/New Order quartet is absolutely ace and I seriously believe that the band will be signed by a record label very soon!
+ Copy On The Board
+ Together We Rot

Wonderful Swedish Indie pop band Penny Century has uploaded 3 new tracks to Myspace. This is happy and cheerful pop music that should please fans of Belle & Sebastian.
+ Lost At Sea
+ Summer Outside
+ Graduation

Peter posted 2 fabulous indie rock tracks yesterday by Canadian quartet Polar Eyes. Unfortunately not much info is given, but it doesn't look as if any demos, ep's etc. are available.

One Proud Dad

Today I put on Sirenesangen by Gasolin' and started dancing to it with my nearly 4 year old daughter. Daddy was quite surprised (and unbelievable proud) when she began singing along! Surely she's not wasting her time learning some stupid children songs. Cool!

Yesterday I mentioned charming Swedish indie pop band Penny Century. This is definitely a highly recommendable band, so download the two songs posted yesterday and add these two as well:
+ To Bitter To Be Charming
+ Season Of Mists

Can you handle any more indie pop from Sweden? If yes; just read on! 6-piece Ironville is a bit more difficult to figure out/label and the songs aren't all that immediate. Still this band sounds both interesting and very promising, so give the band a try

Untitled (once again).....

We had guests for lunch today, which meant lots of Snaps and Baileys. Hmmm slowly starting to think that I'm turning into an alcoholic.....

A new "friend" request at Myspace from (what turned out to be) really good Irish band Shadowplay. The music is grand, moody and beautiful with some (rather clear) references to bands like Sigur Ros, Mercury Rev, The Cure etc.
+ The Submarine Song Recommended!

It's late and time to go to bed, but before shutting down the computer I simply have to recommend this fine Swedish indie band called Penny Century. If you're into female voices and guitars this is definitely something for you to check out!
