This is the third post in a row named ”various”. Used to call these kinds of posts for “shorties”, but I’ve moved on. My creativity certainly knows no limits!
Entakt frontman Jonas is giving away a new recording of a track (or more like a sketch for a track) written for the Sorgenfrei-Villumsen project. It was recorded in one take in his living room, while he was having a cold, so it can hardly be more lo-fi than this. You probably need to understand Danish to fully appreciate the song, but as always anything recorded by Jonas is worth a listen.
+ Bygdebarn (en sang for J)
This is sensitive stuff, but apparently booing Morrissey wasn’t the cleverest thing to do? This incident has been mentioned in every review I've read of the concert. And just for the record. No – I’m not the person in question! UPDATE: Post has been taken down.
Swedish duo the argument is giving away their second album everything depends for free via Bandcamp. Unfortunately it runs for just 25 minutes, but this is absolutely glorious stuff and if 25 minutes is what we’ll get, I guess I can live with that!
+ Nothing Remains
New single (or freebie track if not a single) You Won by The Legends seals the deal. I will now order the album, as this is among the best songs I’ve heard this year. The promo mail says “sparkling pop in colossal production with Philip of The Mary Onettes adding deliciously doomy 80s-esque drum sounds to the song's anthemic qualities. Epically lovely!”. So true!
+ You Won
The steady and impressive flow of new interesting demo recordings from Death Valley Sleepers continues. Newbie Touch Stars is perhaps a little noisier (and definitely a bit shorter) than the more recent recordings, but the songwriting remains top-notch and the influences (VU, JAMC etc.) are as present as ever. Curious as I am, I’ve asked about the band’s future plans, as I find it hard to believe that this freebie scenario can go on forever. Long term ambitions obviously do include the recordings of an album, but for now the band seems more than content sharing the demos hoping that they will help spreading the word, as well as give the band some much appreciated feedback.

Shorties...
Florida indie/new wave band The Monday Photo is currently recording “our first official release”. New track Stellar and The Lifeguard is now streaming at Myspace.
Speaking of Myspace. I’ve more or less given up on this site. Used to provide us with lots of great downloads, but for several months we’ve been waiting for this service to be working again.
Even the artists seem to have problems figuring out what’s going on. Danish electronica artist Spejderrobot (a.k.a. Mikael Elkjær) has remixed the Mercury Rev track Butterfly’s Wing and wants to share it as a free download. But (no surprises) the download function isn’t working and Mikael has now asked Myspace to fix the problem. I wish him the best of luck, 'cause he’s going to need all the luck he can get.
Peter is really high on this track by Sweden's The Voyage. I fully agree with his Mew/The Radio Dept. comparisons.
+ Kitten In The Snow
The consensus seems to be that the Danish live debut by much-hyped Scotsmen Glasvegas was a major disappointment.
This week's song by One Weekly Gun is about drugs. Plain and simple!
+ Magic Mushroom
I’m currently giving the debut album Summer/Winter Nights by Swedish indie duo The Argument a good listen. It’s really interesting and virtually impossible to label. But it’s free to download, so grab it and judge it yourself.

Busy, busy days...
The past few days have been terrible, but the weekend is approaching and brighter days are ahead. Guess it’s time for another round of “catching up”.
ENTAKT will release their yet untitled sophomore album on October 6. The two tracks (premixes) I’ve heard so far sound absolutely phenomenal, so I boldly predict that this will be my favorite album of 2008.
Diefenbach will release Dark Spinner, their 4th album, on October 27.
We Are Popular, the much anticipated debut album by The Holiday Show, will be out October 20.
October could end up being quite interesting, as moi Caprice (I’ve mentioned this previously) will release a new album as well.
One Weekly Gun is back writing songs, including this one inspired by the hoopla surrounding Paris Hilton's recent visit to Denmark.
+ Oh, Paris!
Thanks to Ivan for introducing me to Swedish duo The Argument, which is believed to be the new project of Marcus from Bakers at Dawn.
+ Forget All About The Politics
I've just purchased a copy of the This Is How It Ends EP by The Papertiger Sound. Stream the 4 tracks at Myspace.
One of the Danish radio journalists got so fed up with the Olympics that he decided to do something completely different and instead explore the Beijing indie rock scene. That way I (and hopefully a few others) got introduced to Carsick Cars, which we have been told are highly popular in their native country. The trio has been the opening act for Sonic Youth a few times and once you listen it becomes pretty obvious that the legendary US act has been a great source of inspiration.

Hits In The Car favorite Andrew Boland will be giving away free copies of his forthcoming release, the four-track How The West Was Won 7" EP. Read more at Myspace.
