It's a...

Yesterday afternoon I had the great pleasure of meeting up with Avi of It’s a Trap for a beer and a chat, as he paid Copenhagen a short visit. A great blogger and a very friendly bloke! Read more about his visit to Copenhagen.

Angmoh has posted information on the Munich debut album. And a few mp3’s as well.

moi Caprice will release their fourth album this autumn (no title yet) and in November/December the band will be touring Denmark to support the release (source). December 12 the band will be playing in Helsingør, so I guess this means that I’ll have to skip one of the Christmas parties (plenty of those in December anyway).

A new track by Death Valley Sleepers has been published and as always this is great stuff. Really should get signed, so we can get a decent release.
+ The Golden Mud

This week’s track by One Weekly Gun is a homage to John Linell. That makes it 23 songs this year.
+ Dear John

Someone mentioned UK duo The River Detectives in a mail yesterday, thus reminding me of one of the most underrated bands in the world. Saturday Night Sunday Morning has to be among the 10 best songs ever written (probably a couple of 100 songs on that list!), so please do check out the video (unfortunately the first few seconds are missing).

Another Sunny Day...

No. No. Today's headline is not a reference to that legendary 80's band of the same name, but instead to the fact that the month of May is very close to beating the record as the sunniest month in Denmark since 1920.

Like everyone else, I've just tried to download the new Sigur Rós track Gobbledigook. But since everyone else still seems to be trying to download it, I just receive some nice little error message. Will have to track it down via some blog instead I guess. Btw. Anyone remembers this dialogue from Blackadder goes forth?
Edmund: Yes you did. To tell me some gobbledygook about having a lion up your bottom.
Melchett: Umm...I thought it's the old communications problem again. Stand easy. Action on this is imperative; take that down, Darling.
Darling: Yes, Sir.
Melchett: Also, write down "gobbledygook". I like that word; I want to use it more often in conversation.
Hilarious!

And to make the sun shine even brighter, I've received some info on the new Ed Harcourt album. To be called Beautiful Lie and will be out on Tuesday June 3 in the US. First single Revolution In The Heart sounds quite promising and I've just requested a copy of the album for further "investigations". Will get back to you on this one.

To celebrate their forthcoming UK tour, US duo The Ropes are giving away a free download of the old but excellent single Kill Her Off.

I'm currently streaming a few of the tracks posted by the Lost In The '80s blog. Another setimental sobbing trip down the bricks on memory lane!

Danish indie rock act Munich will release their debut album Those Who Dare on Bad Taste Records on June 16. Eagerly awaited.

Stay in Munich...

Things aren't exactly going my way today, so I really have no time for writing. So while I'm working and trying to get everything back to square one, I'll leave you with these two brand new tracks, by a couple of bands previously featured in the blog.

The Young Ones is from the forthcoming debut album by Danish indie-rock act Munich. It's up-tempo, haunting and catchy, and if the rest of the album is this great, it certainly is something to be looking forward to.

The Myspace page of Spanish quartet Stay is entirely in Spanish, so I really have no idea what is going on. But I believe I Feel You Around must be a brand new one, but of course I could be wrong here (J.A. - can you help?). But a nice one it is, and the Kashmir reference makes perfect sense once you've listened to the track.

Spencer in Munich?

Danish shoegaze/indie-rock 5-piece Munich has finished recording the debut album and 3 songs from the album can be downloaded from the band's Myspace profile (meaning that they are in the typical poor Myspace quality). The songs are not as shoegaze inspired as I expected them to be, but instead the band sounds like it has found a source of inspiration in fellow Danish rock band Kashmir! I cannot find the release date for the album anywhere, but since the songs are really great, I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the rest of it - whenever it will released!

Spencer Tricker is a songwriter from N.Y., who (in his own words) writes and records music "in a desperate bid to avoid getting a real job". I have to admit that I like his honesty. No bullshit about saving the world, and who cannot relate to his ambition about avoiding getting a job? On the first of the two tracks below, Altar Boy Blue, he sounds very lo-fi almost in an Iron & Wine kind of way, but on the second track, Oblivion, things suddenly get a lot more "plugged" towards the end of the song. I cannot decide which part or "musical direction" I like the most, but facts remain that Spencer has a great voice and a knack for writing beautiful songs! I guess only time will tell, if those skills are enough to "save" him from taking a 9 to 5 job once his days as a student are over, but hopefully we'll hear a lot more from this very talented singer/songwriter!
