Hold my hand...

Pete White continues to give away some of his older recordings over at SoundCloud. Yesterday he upload these two tracks that (can you believe it) were the first of his songs I ever posted...as long ago as back in January 2006! Great music stands the test of time and they still sound fantastic...

Happy go lucky...

Many a long time ago Pete White used to be my favorite singer-songwriter. But then he wandered on to become a member of country folk trio Navaro and his solo stuff was sort of put on hold. Yesterday he shared a couple of tracks at SoundCloud and though neither are new recordings one could always hope that this is a sign of him reviving the solo project (at least he promises that lots more will follow).

Shorties...

According to an article today (it’s in Danish, but read it here if you like) several nightclubs have successfully kept troublemakers away by not playing hip-hop and rap. Now you draw your own conclusions, but shitty music attracts...

In his blog yesterday the infamous Myspace founder Tom claimed that the download links for free tracks are back again. However I have yet to find one downloadable track, but am seriously looking forward to whenever things are back working properly again.

Biker Boy doesn't seem to be able to make the download function work, so he has posted download links for October Song as well as the remix of the track done by House of Primates. The firewall at work doesn't like the links, but I hope they are working!?

Great service! Slow Shark Records has mailed me a copy of the debut album We Are Popular by The Holiday Show…nearly 3 weeks before it’s released!

Hits In The Car favorite Pete White has added two newly recorded tracks to his Myspace player as well as a lovely new version of Hand Signals.

October 10 at 10am a new and vastly improved version (so we're told) of Gaffa.dk will be launched.

Here’s the brand new video for the beautiful Värnhem by Emerald Park.

As promised yesterday...

...another batch of music!

Swedish singer August Landelius has recorded an acoustic cover of the The Floor Is Made Of Lava track Told Her I'm From Compton.
+ Told Her I'm From Compton

Blog favorite Pete White is currently devoting most of his time to the recently formed trio Navaro. The acoustic folk trio has been signed to the label Halo Records and hopefully an album will be released this year. A few lovely demo tracks are yours to grab for free over at Myspace.
+ Orphans

Download the debut single Nettopigen by Starfighters 2007 winner Troels Boberg for free this week from his Myspace profile (as well as a remix of the same track). It's quite popular in Denmark right now and has received plenty of radio airplay. Personally I find it irritating and overrated, but an artist giving a single away for free is always an initiative worth supporting.

Manchester quartet Kni9hts still hold the title as "the best unsigned band in the world", but another UK act that just as easily could be considered for the same "honor", is the shoegaze/dreampop duo The Papertiger Sound. The excellent but (for whatever unbelievable reason) still unreleased album fujipop is free to download from Last.fm.
+ The alpha and the beta

RAC (RemixArtistCollective) has remixed the Tegan and Sara track Back In Your Head. As always his (André) remix is better than the original version.
+ Back In Your Head (RAC mix)

If everything works out as planned - expect another post like this one tomorrow...

Goodies...

I've lots of stuff that I'd like to post, but time is as always a very limited commodity these days (look at the burden I have to carry). So here are the songs and hopefully I'll be able to add a few comments during the day...

+ Tilde vs SuperTroels - Toss Away (SuperTroels Remix)
SuperTroels was rather pissed off yesterday (to say the least), because a Danish blog (which now has been deleted) had made the entire I Know That You Know album available for free. As a blogger I can only support free downloads of a few tracks, but the artists still have to make a living, so I can never support actions like that! Should add that his album is pretty good, so I can only recommend that you buy it!

+ Pete White - The Light & Friction Makes Fire
That UK singer/songwriter Pete White is one of my favorite artists is probably one of the world's worst kept secrets. He's been in the studio and re-recorded a couple of old tracks and in his own words: "finally got a dark version of friction makes fire and quite an up beat version of the light." As always highly enjoyable.

+ Buddy Akai - I'll Know
Rodolfo is a really busy man as well these days (hopefully I'll soon be able to tell you why), so we haven't heard from him for quite some time. But yesterday he sent a message recommending this catchy and danceable one by Californian electro/indie rock act Buddy Akai.

+ Tears Run Rings - A Question and an Answer
This wonderful dream pop track is taken from the band's debut EP released earlier this week on Lavender Recordings/Disaster Club Records.

+ No Privacy - The Shadow
The animated video for this track is absolutely fantastic. Check it here. The song itself by this Danish quartet is quite OK.

+ Sir Salvatore - Public Key
Just a pretty good one from the mailbox. This band is beginning to make a splash in the blogger world.

+ The Paperhouse - Bright Life
Not really that high on this track by Aussie band The Paperhouse. But those opening jangling guitars are really, really great!

(that's) How It Is...

Today is the busiest day ever (or pretty damn close to being just that). That's how things are every now and then I guess, so while I'm focusing on "real" life, I hope lots and lots of you will spend a few of your precious seconds and download (and listen to) this new track by Hits In The Car favorite Pete White. How It Is takes PW in a somewhat different direction, as this one is more up-tempo and rocking than the acoustic and laid-back songs we're used to hearing from him. But evidently he can do it all, so once again he has recorded a track, which is nothing but excellent and instantly catchy!!

Snow continues to fall....

But no - I'm not going to post that track again today!

Hand Signals by Hits In The Car favorite Pete White has been remixed by Soundfoundation. Amazingly this version is even better than the original! If you have a couple of seconds you really should stream his new and surprisingly up-tempo/rocking track How It Is over at Myspace. I'd love to share this track with all of you, but getting permission to doing that seems to be a bit complicated.

The entire 2006 album Into the Plateau by Spanish indie electronic act Delorean can be downloaded for free over at Last.fm. All 8 tracks are "designed" for the dancefloor, so if you're searching for a "Saturday evening/night soundtrack" - look no further. Kindly brought to my attention by none other than J.A.!
+ Complexity Reducer
+ As Times Breaks Off

OK now - this is what you do! Take the biggest blender you can find. Into the blender you put all your CD's by The Cure, New Order, Joy Division, Puressence and The Radio Dept. You spice it up by adding a little (not very much) shoegaze, some new wave and of course a whole lot of that typical Swedish ability of writing great and catchy tunes. Switch on the blender at high speed for a couple of minutes and....voila....you have The Search from Uppsala. A whopping 63 tracks are available for free from the band's Last.fm profile and obviously I have yet to listen to all of them. But those tracks I have listened to so far are nothing but fantastic! Thanks to Fadeaway for unknowingly assisting me in finding this band!

AirSpiel +++

Scottish indie rock band AirSpiel sent me a mail last week asking if I'd be interested in making a blog post on the band. I quickly recalled that Chris featured the band in his blog a while back, but more importantly I also recalled that I liked the band's songs, when I listened to them. So obviously my reply to the band was positive and in return the boys gave me permission to upload a few tracks.
AirSpiel has existed since 2003 and originally started out as a duo, but is now a 5-piece following some changes and additions the past few years. The band is currently recording (or has recently finished?) their debut album (to be called In Another Life), but I cannot find any information on a release date. The music is really catchy indie rock that for obvious reasons has been compared to bands like U2, Coldplay and The Bluetones. I've posted two tracks by the band below and both of them are just fabulous. So I'm eagerly awaiting news on when the album will be released and I will keep you posted if/when I have any news!
+ Ghosts
+ Smiling at the Sun

Fine Danish music blog emodreng og indiepige is run by two 16-year-olds (?!?!?!?!) with a brilliant taste in music. They have just posted their best albums of 2006 list, which sure is worth checking out. They also give the excellent Kelly by Van She some much deserved exposure.

Check out this (alternative?) Christmas track by American rockers Tone Rodent.
+ Christmastime

Yesterday I finally bought Broom by Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin. Will be quite interesting to hear if it is as great as everyone else seem to believe it is.
+ Oregon Girl
+ House Fire

Hits In The Car favorite Pete White has teamed up with John Beeson to form the duo beeson and white. 4 very good tracks from an acoustic live recording session are available for download.
+ Run

Another Hits In The Car favorite - Kind of girl - is no. 12 & 13 in this week's Free Downloads chart over at Last.fm! Quite a surprise, but well-deserved!!
+ Poetry boy
+ Slave to your charms

120 Days is picked as band of the year by DoCopenhagen.
+ Come Out, Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone

It's probably a very good thing that I don't have to make my living through blogging. The average no. of hits per day in December is down to 265 compared to 315 in November. Or down by 16%. Numbers like that could get anyone fired!!

Pete White - New Demos

My favorite singer/songwriter Pete White has uploaded two brand new demos to his Myspace profile. The two tracks reveal a quiet and mellow Pete (though things do get a bit "plugged" midways through Time), but you must prepare yourself to give both of them a few listens, as they are not as immediately catchy as some of his previous one. Instead these new songs need a little time to grow/unfold, but since it's always a thrill listening to his voice (that must be among the finest you will hear from anyone these days), time shouldn't really be a problem!

Come out and take the step back to me.......

If you're observant you'll notice that I've added The Step by Anamia to the list of my current favorites (in the right column). It's difficult picking just one of the new tracks, but this one is the least noisy and most heartfelt of the 5 new ones. To cut a long story short; Music doesn't get more beautiful than this!

In the mailbox this morning I found a link for the 9 minute long single Come Out (etc.) by Norwegian band 120 Days. Spoofing everything from Kraftwerk to Primal Scream it's a cool danceable track.
+ Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone)

Another one from the mailbox is the terrific Back To Me by US indie pop band The Positions. I agree with the press info that fans of Camera Obscura will (they really should) appreciate this one!
+ Back To Me

Two new (or old? - I'm not sure, because that dude is really productive) tracks by my favorite singer/songwriter Pete White are available for download. Check him out and be prepared to listen to the most amazing voice!
+ Hand Signals
+ When You Go From My Door

Go here if you want to download the new Depeche Mode track (Martyr).

Stuff 'n' stuff

Daddys' girl is supervising today's post. Trivia of the day is that her favorite artist is Pete White, because when he starts to sing, she immediately stops crying. Really no wonder, because he does indeed have the most amazing voice.

It's Thursday; and I still like Thursdays a lot! Al though the suckers at Myspace are doing their utmost trying to ruin it, by constantly changing the filenames of the songs. So don't be surprised if lots of links in the blog are not working properly.

Listen to the brilliant Cassettes Won't Listen remix of Asobi Seksu's Strawberries. Interestingly this is shoegaze converted into dance! Where did that piano come from? If you're not familiar with the original version, you can find it here.
+ Strawberries (Cassettes Won't Listen remix)

Peter is high on Monkey by Low which he has found at Subpop a long with several other fine tracks. No wonder that he likes this one, because it's a fabulous (and quite noisy) alternative rock track.
+ Monkey

José Antonio is still busy sending lots of mails and yesterday I listened to these two fine recommendations of his:

+ Manuskript - State Of Affairs
Lots of 80's influences and described as a "happy" goth band!

+ Kuryakin - Snow
Swedish indie electronica.

Busy Friday?

My favorite singer/songwriter Pete White is currently busy in the studio recording and yesterday two tracks were uploaded to his Myspace profile. If my ears don't fool me, both songs have been available in these versions before (please correct me if I'm wrong!). But if you didn't check out the songs the first time, it's definitely about time now!!!!! A single will be released later in the year on the C2i label. Very much looking forward to that one!
+ Just In Time
+ Hand Signals Demo (previously called Hold Your Hand)

Until reading this article yesterday I had never heard of Vesterbro Festival. But I've marked the calendar and will visit the festival on Saturday 17 June, where I plan to see Sidste Ambulance, The Alpine and The Holiday Show. Anyone else going?
+ Sidste Ambulance - Delt I To
+ The Alpine - Trigger (A.T.O.C. remix)
+ The Holiday Show - Snookerstar

Thanks (once again) to Spanish read José Antonio for recommending a truckload of bands. I'd probably be busy for hours if I should check out all of them. And I will check them out, but it might take a little while, before I've worked my way through all of them! One of the songs I did listen to yesterday was The Great Alternative Band by UK band Teen Anthems, which is a nice uptempo and catchy tune.
+ The Great Alternative Band
He also recommends Confusion by Spanish electronica band Cycle. Surprisingly it's not bad at all!
+ Confusion

The person running the Terry Hall myspace profile has received a lot of positive feedback thanks to the posting of Thinking Of You, so an extended version of Castles In The Air by The Colourfield has been uploaded as well.
