One small step...

J.A. continues to be a useful and reliable source. This time he has mailed the info that you can get three new recordings by Glasslights for free if you sign up to the band’s mailing list. Plus this new version of old favorite Someone Like Me.
+ Someone Like Me

December is just around the corner and so is the annual flow of messages from bands wanting to share their Christmas recordings. The number of unread mails reached four digits some time ago, but I’m pretty certain that this track by Kate and After was the first of its kind to hit the mailbox this year and thus kicks off the Christmas season in this blog.
+ Snow Angel

Though just published earlier today it’s hardly news any longer that Interpol will release a new album in early 2010. It has (apparently) been revealed as well that the album will be a return to the sound of Turn on the Bright Lights, which makes the news even greater!
+ NYC

The album Three Fact Fader by Engineers has just been released and promo track Brighter As We Fall indicates that this is a must-hear for anyone who (just like me) is a fan of shoegaze.
+ Brighter As We Fall

A list of the 60 best albums of the decade (2000 – 2009) according to the Frekvens staff has been published.

Evening update:

Checking mails and downloading songs tonight. As written earlier today there's plenty to dig into.

First song to catch my attention and simply impossible not to post, is this ultra cool new wave/post-punk inspired track by Project:Komakino.
+ Civility

Have yet to decide if I actually enjoy the music of Morningbell or simply was intrigued by the description in the promo mail saying "...evokes everything from Curtis Mayfield to Tom Waits to African drumming and Brazilian folk music".
+ Marching Off To War
+ Stay In The Garden

Scrolling through the mails, I’m honestly surprised by the number of bands recording cover versions to help promoting their own music/releases.

Need to setup a filter to delete all remixes. Would reduce the number of mails by 50% (at least) in an instant!

When Danish bands write me in English is it because my English is super or because they haven't bothered reading anything in the blog except the mail address?

Fresh from the mailbox is this insisting dance floor anthem by Danish duo DATO. Disco, dance or whatever label you prefer attaching to this song, you simply cannot ignore that this is really, really catchy one.

Monday...

It’s Monday and I’m tired. Plain and simple and I’m absolutely certain you know exactly what Mondays like these are like!

A Classic Ecucation has just released their debut 5 track 12” vinyl EP. Logically it's named First EP and it features everything recorded by the band so far. It's a 300 copies limited edition and it can be ordered from the band’s webpage. Of course you’ll get a free MP3 download link as well. Did I mention that the EP is good? Well I did now!
+ Victories At Night

The new single Song For by Earlimart was added to the current favorites this weekend. A lovely little pop gem that one!
+ Song for

A new Støj på Frekvensen post has been published.

Everyone else is doing it and now the turn has come to Kent. The Punks Jump Up Remix of the new single Vy Från Ett Luftslott is free to download from the band's webpage.

Midweek...

Yesterday was bad in many ways, but it always amazes me how a good night’s sleep can do magic.

Check my new post over at Frekvens.dk. With Vesterbro Festival starting tomorrow the topic is given.

In a Myspace bulletin Idlewild announces that the band will be its own supporting act on a few selected dates of their upcoming UK tour. For the first half hour they'll be playing and acoustic set, and after a break the “real” concert will start. Perhaps this is something other bands should consider?

A new track by A Kid Hereafter is exclusively available from Myspace. It’s called I Don’t Trust Tom and the Tom in question should be known by every (?) Myspace user.

21 and counting; New track posted by One Weekly Gun.

The perfect waste of time…

The Eiffel Tower, Euro Disney, The Louvre Museum etc. etc. Back again after spending 4½ eventful days in Paris playing tourists with the girls.

Today’s subject line doesn’t refer to the trip, but is the translated title of the new BREUMM album Det Perfekte Spild Af Tid. Been spending most of the day listening to it, and the fine lyrics combined with the catchy melodies simply make the album one of this year’s “must have’s”. Buy it via the band’s Myspace page.

One Weekly Gun has been busy as two new tracks have been posted.
+ Drive Your Wagon
+ We Will Happily Sedate You

Listen to two new tracks by Larsen & Furious Jane at Frekvens.dk.

Biksemad...

On Tuesday (April 8) Foals will be playing at Train in Århus (that's the second largest city in Denmark in case you've never heard of it before). Enter a contest at Frekvens.dk if you're interested in winning a couple of tickets for the concert.
+ Electric Bloom (Loud Pipes Remix)

If you happen to enjoy the above remix, there's another 41 (!) versions of the same song to download at Last.fm.

That Death Valley Sleepers track I mentioned yesterday is pretty good and it follows nicely in the footsteps of their previous recordings. No surprises in store, but who really cares (?) and you certainly shouldn't fix what's not broken! So prepare yourself for another track from the next Tarantino movie (not really, but it definitely would be a good fit).
+ Hey Messy Queen

I've just received two promo tracks from the Tobias Fröberg album Turn Heads and both are really catchy ones. Perhaps it's time to order the album?
+ Slipping Under The Radar

Today is ENTAKT day at the office, as all three albums by the band are on constant rotation (yes - there are indeed a total of three albums. The two full-length demos as well as the official debut album Træerne Vokser Ind I Himlen).

The Weekend is (almost) upon us...

No drinking this weekend I swear!

UK singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner will release his debut album Hand Built By Robots on April 29 in the US, and as an appetizer a 3 song iTunes exclusive EP is now available including the gorgeous Dream Catch Me. When I mentioned the song for the first time earlier this year, I borrowed the quote “that was one sensitive guy with at guitar” and listening to that track again, I clearly recall why I thought the quote was spot on. More interestingly the album (which spent two weeks at no. 1 in the UK album chart back in August last year) will be out in Denmark on April 7 – the day after he plays a concert at Vega in Copenhagen.
+ Dream Catch Me

US psychedelic pop band Midnight Movies will release a digital EP called Nights on Tuesday (March 11) on New Line Records. The promo track Should Have Known leaves a fairly OK impression.
+ Should Have Known

Swedish indie rock band Emerald Park is giving away a new track called A Higher Loss and despite the band claiming that it's noisier than usual, it still very much bears that typical Emerald Park/Moonbabies Ola sound.
+ A Higher Loss

A brand new edition of Støj på Frekvensen is up.

Saturday shorties...

Did you check the new Støj på Frekvensen post yesterday?

The Richard Hawley til Danmark Facebook group now has 38 members. Sorry but I won't stop blogging about it until a concert has been booked. So why not help spreading the word?

Excellent Copenhagen indie pop/rock act Passtime Poets (formerly known as Amazonair) have a string of new tracks up at Myspace. All of them are freebies so grab whatever song you like; it's brilliant stuff.
+ 69 ML

Canadian indie/new wave band Hinterland gives away a new and pretty good track over at Myspace.
+ Detwiller Pavilion

Even more shorties...

Check out my recent Støj På Frekvensen post.

A digital copy of Downhill, the DAYS debut EP, somehow fell into my lap the other day. As expected it contains 7 wonderful indie pop tunes, but also leaves me wondering what Shelflife are up to. According to their webpage the EP has been "coming soon" for several months. Peter has more info and one of the tracks.

In a cyclone of stones has turned into a very reliable source and for the second time this week I am passing on one of the recommendations found there. This time it's the damn fine new demo Nunca estás a la altura by Spanish indie-pop band Klaus&Kinski.
+ Nunca estás a la altura

Since I posted it, Kunsten At Slippe Taget by ENTAKT has been downloaded/streamed 878 times. Four digits are within reach, so please give it a listen!
+ Kunsten At Slippe Taget

Just in case you have foolishly ignored my previous pleas. Remember Us With Millions at Lades tomorrow!
+ Shepherds Hour

J.A. suggest that we all should listen to a few tracks from the forthcoming debut album The Fashionistas by Swedish electro-/synth-pop band Violet Elegy. Catchy stuff indeed!

Shorties...

My body means serious business and it just won't let me forget my age. My back is still a painful mess!

I have too many CD’s - plain and simple. I spent half an hour last night searching for Godspeed Into The Mainstream, and although I found lots of CD's I had forgotten all about, I never did find that Spleen United debut. Perhaps the girls have swapped it for a pair of candy bags? Don’t forget that the sophomore album Neanderthal will be out later this month!
+ Streetfighter (Broken Spindles Remix)

The morning started with some seriously bad news. J.A. mailed the info that Danish The Smiths’ inspired quintet The Cupids has decided to split up, even though a single release seemed to be just around the corner.
+ Tonight
+ Sunday

The new Moto Boy single (to be released next week on Songs I wish I had written) is a gorgeous piece of sweet pop music.
+ Young Love

In A Cyclone Of Stones recommends lovely Swedish indie poppers bakers at dawn. The new 9 track EP anything in particular is up for grabs right here. This stuff is simply too good and too interesting to overlook.
+ hopeful

Flowers of Romance is the title of a brand new track by Green Concorde and it's arguably their best track to date. Stream only.

One event that you shouldn't miss - next Friday (January 18) a few of the Frekvens boys will be DJ'ing at the Beta Satan concert at Musikcafeen in Århus. Read more.

No news...

I probably won't post any new stuff today, as I'll be busy writing two posts for Frekvens.dk. The first one will be a Christmas edition of "Støj På Frekvensen", which I'll publish as soon as I'm done writing (I'm working on it right now - multi-tasking you know?)! The second one will include my Top 10 favorite albums of 2007, as I've finally pulled my act together and created the list. Whether or not it will be published today I don't know, but make it I will.
UPDATE: The list has been published.

No milk today...

No post(s) today, but check out Frekvens.dk later this afternoon for another issue of "Støj på frekvensen".

October 23, 2007

Another one of those This and That posts...

Frekvens.dk now has a Myspace profile. Check them out and add them to your friends!

Now this is a quite difficult one. Someone has recommended US folk rock band The Instant to me and I really like the band's music (they write some pretty fine tunes), but boy do I find the voice of the lead singer annoying. Is he falling asleep or is he singing through his nose or? I don't know, but those guitars are just lovely and the piano in the end makes it all worthwhile!
+ October

The Tamborines are giving away two new demo tracks. CWB (whatever that stands for) is definitely the better of the two.
+ CWB

Finally a Matinée Recordings double pack. The lovely indie pop label has just released the debut album Saw You Dancing by The Hermit Crabs and a brand new EP by Math and Physics Club called Baby I'm Yours. As you'd expect the promo tracks are just wonderful!

I'm a debutant...

Today I've written my first post over at Danish weblog Frekvens.dk, introducing the readers to 5 of my recent favorite songs/artists. Check out who made the cut!

October 8, 2007

What's the frequency...

The nice boys over at Frekvens.dk have asked me to join their small part of cyberspace, and I've happily accepted the invitation. Plans are that I shall post 2-4 times per month introducing their readers to the best "hits in the car" of the past week/fortnight. Sounds like the perfect concept to me. Will let you know when the first post is up (probably not this week).

Pitchfork reviews Black Kids and suddenly the number of visitors to this blog increases, because I've mentioned the band a few times. I like their music, but I certainly didn't see this sudden popularity coming. Download the rest of the Wizard of Ahhhs EP here.
+ Hurricane Jane

One more week and The Floor Is Made Of Lava debut album All Juice No Fruit will be out on Tabu Records. The band has sent out a promo mail including download links to 5 songs of the album, so I thought I'd turn this into "the week of the Lava" and post one song each day (Monday-Friday). If you like what you hear, you can pre-order the album right here.
+ Do Your Sister

Swedesplease has added me to the blogroll, so I've returned the favor...

Sad to say that I'm slightly underwhelmed by the four Celestial remixes that Music Is My Girlfriend is giving away for free today. I love the original tracks and cannot see why they had to be remixed; though getting them for free is obviously very nice and generous!
+ Lake Como (remix)

One-two-three clicks over at Myspace and I suddenly find myself listening to Icecold Kisses by Swedish electro/synth-pop duo Ostrich. Not groundbreaking in any way, but this really is a nice, sweet and catchy synth dominated tune.
+ Icecold Kisses
