From the mailbox...

The laziness continues and this is another post with very little content. But I seriously need to clean out the mailbox (+2,600 mails in the inbox) and that’s exactly what I plan to do today. Interesting stuff will be posted, so check back for updates.

+ Sensual Harassment - Fever
Irresistible uptempo new-wave inspired pop tune that will (or least ought to) fill the dance floors everywhere!

Of course - don't forget to download the new track Lights by Interpol. Though it can hardly be called one of the band's more interesting outputs!

+ Simian Ghost - Star Receiver
Nice debut single from this electric pop project fronted by Sebastian of Aerial.

+ Virgo Rising - Upon a Kiss
Shoegaze band recommended by J.A.

As always some of the stuff is so ridiculously bad that I completely fail to understand why it is promoted...

Not exactly from the mailbox, but I just learned the tung_nem will be playing at this year's Start! Festival. And just like that the Festival became a lot more interesting!
+ New Perfection

More later…???

One small step...

J.A. continues to be a useful and reliable source. This time he has mailed the info that you can get three new recordings by Glasslights for free if you sign up to the band’s mailing list. Plus this new version of old favorite Someone Like Me.
+ Someone Like Me

December is just around the corner and so is the annual flow of messages from bands wanting to share their Christmas recordings. The number of unread mails reached four digits some time ago, but I’m pretty certain that this track by Kate and After was the first of its kind to hit the mailbox this year and thus kicks off the Christmas season in this blog.
+ Snow Angel

Though just published earlier today it’s hardly news any longer that Interpol will release a new album in early 2010. It has (apparently) been revealed as well that the album will be a return to the sound of Turn on the Bright Lights, which makes the news even greater!
+ NYC

The album Three Fact Fader by Engineers has just been released and promo track Brighter As We Fall indicates that this is a must-hear for anyone who (just like me) is a fan of shoegaze.
+ Brighter As We Fall

A list of the 60 best albums of the decade (2000 – 2009) according to the Frekvens staff has been published.

Evening update:

Checking mails and downloading songs tonight. As written earlier today there's plenty to dig into.

First song to catch my attention and simply impossible not to post, is this ultra cool new wave/post-punk inspired track by Project:Komakino.
+ Civility

Have yet to decide if I actually enjoy the music of Morningbell or simply was intrigued by the description in the promo mail saying "...evokes everything from Curtis Mayfield to Tom Waits to African drumming and Brazilian folk music".
+ Marching Off To War
+ Stay In The Garden

Scrolling through the mails, I’m honestly surprised by the number of bands recording cover versions to help promoting their own music/releases.

Need to setup a filter to delete all remixes. Would reduce the number of mails by 50% (at least) in an instant!

When Danish bands write me in English is it because my English is super or because they haven't bothered reading anything in the blog except the mail address?

Fresh from the mailbox is this insisting dance floor anthem by Danish duo DATO. Disco, dance or whatever label you prefer attaching to this song, you simply cannot ignore that this is really, really catchy one.
+ I Don't Wanna (featuring Danny Andersen)

Interpol at Train...

As always I’m not going to write a review, but (as always) I’ll post a few thoughts/comments.

- It was my first, but hopefully not my last, visit to Train. It’s a fine venue and I especially like how you’re close to the stage, even when you’re at the back of the room.
- Why the F-word wasn’t Take You On A Cruise included in the set? It just happens to be one of my favorite songs and I will pity myself for a long time that it was left out.
- Their live performances certainly won’t charm over any new fans. But you gotta give them credit that they remain true to their image of being indie cool and angry young men.
- The sound was fine during the first two songs, but once Paul Banks signaled “more guitar”, Daniel Kessler dominated the rest of the show. Perhaps this was what the band wanted, but it didn't sound like a wise decision to me.
- DKK 450 (EUR 60) is a lot of money for 16 songs and 80 minutes of music.
- Despite all my criticism, the show clearly proved that this band has unique songwriting talents.
- A few reviews: Gaffa, JP & Soundvenue.

This is what I missed or rather what I was hoping to see:

Shorties...

There will be no updates the next couple of days. Going to Jutland tonight to see Interpol live at Train tomorrow night!

Doesn’t seem like that Entakt video from yesterday is working...or is it?

You can stream a whopping 2 minutes of the new Carpark North single at myspace. Don’t know if they are afraid of people recording and sharing it, but seems pointless to me only making a part of it available.

Hits In The Car favorite Andrew Boland has published a lovely new track named Aili.
+ Aili

The Ropes are giving away the title from the duo’s forthcoming album What They Do For Fun. Was surprised how immediately catchy it is.

Back in the Highlife Again...

Three days have already gone since I returned from Italy, but mentally I’m still some hundred miles south enjoying the beauty and warmth of Tuscany. Should you ever get the chance to visit Siena, I cannot recommend this lovely city enough. The Piazza del Campo must be one of the most beautiful squares in the world, especially at night! I also met two guys playing in different bands, but I'll get back to that story some other time.

The topic of this post obviously is a reference to the Steve Winwood track of the same name, from the 1986 album Back in the High Life. In the early 90’s I was quite a fan of the former wunderkind, but to be fair I haven’t paid much attention to his work the past 10 years. However last week I received a promo copy of his 9th solo album called Nine Lives, which has given him a small renaissance in my small world, as I’ve been listening to it several times today (and yesterday as well). But as much as I’m trying to like the album, it has so far failed to impress me. It’s a well known fact (to me it is) that my music taste has underwent quite a change in recent years, so I probably would have enjoyed this album tremendously had it been released in 1991. But in 2008 it sounds very nice and well produced – and that’s it!
+ Dirty City (featuring Eric Clapton on guitar)

Received my brand new Matinée Recordings t-shirt yesterday (the green logo)!

One Weekly Gun informs Mrs. Clinton that it's over, but probably to no avail.
+ Addicted to Holes

On July 1 Interpol will be playing at Train in Aarhus. I'm one ticket richer and 450 DKK poorer.
