Trin for trin for...

A boiling kettle...

Not sure what to make of the new Korallreven single Sa Sa Samoa. It will probably works fine as part of the band's soon to be released debut album, but as a standalone track it just doesn’t. Or what does anyone think?

Thank you Mr. Villumsen for introducing me to Blind Pilot. How on earth did I miss out on this band?

Have listened to the forthcoming Balloon Magic debut EP a couple of times this morning. Do I need to say that it sounds absolutely fantastic?
+ I’d like to build a house

New interesting Danish band on my radar is Den Fjerde Væg. Singing in Danish and describing their music as mix of Animal Collective and XTC. The three track debut EP Glittertårer is available for free via bandcamp.

Ordered this cool t-shirt the other day. My old Cause & Effect t-shirt has been in the washing machine a few too many times, so it was definitely time to buy a new one!

Artificial construct...

Stream the new Cause and Effect EP Artificial Construct - Part Two below or do what I just did; rush over to bandcamp and spend an insignificant part of your weekly allowance buying it! Pretty close to be a "must" for any fan of 80's synth pop.

Happiness is alien...

Great news of the day...one of my favorite bands Cause & Effect will put out a new EP called Artificial Construct Part Two on July 26. First track of the EP Happiness Is Alien is absolutely smashing, though the video is somewhat bizarre; which btw. is the band's first since the video for the 1994 single It's Over Now. Preordering begins on Friday, July 8.

Shorties...

This one will probably end up being even shorter than yesterday’s post, as the heat in my office is unbearable and my brain simply refusing to cooperate.

Told you that Peter would feature Les Incendiaries! Yes Peter! You might be predictable, but your taste in music is absolutely impeccable!

One Weekly Gun is back writing songs! Will this be a “one week wonder” or will we once again be treated to a new song every week?
+ Is Sex a Thing?

One of my all time favorite bands Cause and Effect has a brand new webpage and celebrates this by giving away a free download of the excellent Dirty 8VA Mix of Happy?

US synth-pop duo Null Device reminds me quite a lot of the aforementioned Cause & Effect and recently I’ve been feasting on free downloads from their bandcamp page.

Shorties...

Things are awfully quiet around here these days. I wish things could be different, but unfortunately that’s how it is right now!

Going to Hamburg tomorrow with 6 of my real thirsty friends. A few train stops aside, this will be my first visit to the German metropol. Have been told that it's a real cool city?

This energetic and immediately catchy track by Rob Cowen and The Dissidents has had a permanent spot on my playlists the past week.
+ Heartache

Check out the solo project Devious Delight by Northern Portrait guitarist Jesper Bonde. It will be quite interesting to follow, if this evolves into something more serious or simply is the first indication of him (co-) writing future Northern Portrait songs.

Please vote for the excellent Cause & Effect remix (entry no. 65) in the remix contest for Andy Bell's upcoming single Say What You Want!.

Following a string of EP releases Tower of Foil has finally released a debut album. Named Driving North and available at CD Baby. The album can be streamed at Last.fm. or download the four promo tracks for free.
+ Shaping The Sky

Two brand new tracks by cool Swedish duo Ostrich can now be streamed at Myspace.

This and that...

Wanted to buy the new Cause & Effect EP Artificial Construct - Part One earlier today, but bandcamp wasn't exactly cooperative. Decided to post my frustrations about this at the band's Facebook page and a few hours later the band posted an update that the problem(s) had been fixed. So right away I headed over to bandcamp and bought the CD (including access to immediate download). What I didn't see before ordering was that the band had mailed and offered me a free download of the EP for my troubles! Not posting this to express any dissatisfaction about spending those $5.99 (as always I'm just glad to support independent music), but rather to state how incredibly cool I think the band is for actually getting back to me as well as showing their appreciation by offering a free download! Listening to the songs right now and only too happy to learn that they sound like vintage Cause & Effect!

The program for this summer's Start! Festival was published two weeks ago, but to be honest, I'm rather unimpressed. So I'm seriously considering not going this year...

Exactly a week ago Jonas posted a Geneva video, which made me start pondering what has happened to ex-Geneva frontman Andrew Montgomery's project st famous. Seems like it has now turned into a solo project, but new songs are in the making, which I believe is always a good sign? And not matter how you look at things and how things will develop; Mr. Montgomery still has one of the best voices in music.

Just found this new single by Trentemøller in the mailbox. Not sure what I expected (not a long to be truthful), but this is surprisingly enjoyable and pleasingly distant from the electronica universe I normally associate with Trentemøller.
+ Sycamore Feeling (Trentemøller Remix Edit)

chaotisch und charmant interviews Caspar of Champagne Riot and offers the track Ingrid Bergman as a free download. As previously mentioned it's Stefan of Northern Portrait, who does the singing and this is one track you simply "have" to download! UPDATE: Caspar just okayed that I post the track as well, so...

News of the day...

US synth duo (and long time favorites) Cause & Effect has announced that they are currently working on new songs! If/once the songs are published that will be the first new stuff we hear from the lads since the 2003 The Sunrise EP! Below the video for what is perhaps their best known song Another Minute as well as a remix of The Sunrise EP track Into The Light.

A grumpy morning...

I have a busy day ahead of me and my hurting back is killing me (update: it's FUCKING killing me!!!). Perhaps it's just my body sending a friendly reminder that I'm only a few days away from turning 39?

Despite being busy I'm not going to leave you completely empty handed, so here are two cool dancefloor filling remixes done by Californian DJ Jeff Barringer (actually I've posted both of them before, but don't tell anyone - ok?).

Friday blurbs (bullshit! bullshit!)...

The boys from Anamia have mailed a brief update (including a few pictures) and accordingly the recording of 4 new tracks was quite a success. The band is still in the process of mixing the songs, but I'm really looking forward to listen to the new "babies". Hopefully they will spend a little more energy on promoting the new EP than they did on last year's An Extraordinary New Fitness Product, because this band is simply too great to go unnoticed. Will keep you posted whenever there is something new to tell.
+ As I Walk Into The Fight (from last year's EP)

Part II of the J.A. recommends post has been postponed for now. But when I look at my mailbox I'm certain there'll be another post like that in the near future.

The great new Tower of Foil EP Faster Than Your Eye is released today. Grab all 3 tracks for free here.

I've finally made up my mind that I will post a few tracks by Cause and Effect. I just need to find the time to write a "worthy" post. I could of course just post the songs, but wouldn't that be a rather weak solution? Last year the band gave away a remix of Into The Light from the 2003 Sunrise EP for free, so this one will have to do for now...
+ Into the Light (DJ Jeff Barringer & J-Star Remix)

If DJ Jeff Barringer rings a bell it's probably because of this remix that I've posted a few times before.
+ Mighty Six Ninety - Keeping You In Mind (Keeping It Electro Club Mix)

Yesterday Music of the Moment temporarily changed its name to Weather of the Moment. At the same time J.A. is complaining about the heat and drought in Spain. We live in a paradox world - don't we?

In a cyclone of stones has posted a new remix of the Oliver North Boy Choir track Adrenaline. The remix was done by TAT2000 and I agree with Ivan (who runs the blog and more importantly is a member of ONBC) that the remix is darker than the original version (which I probably like better). Big thanks to Ivan for letting me post the remix in the blog.
+ Adrenaline (farm animals remix)

Electronically yours (remember to check out the page for several other interesting remixes) has posted John Von Ahlen's excellent remix of We Live So Fast by Heaven 17. Is it a guilty pleasure enjoying the music of Heaven 17?

Dilemma...

US synth pop duo Cause and Effect has been one of my favorite bands for the past 10 years (more and less) and the other day I sent them a message asking if it was OK to post a few of the band's songs in the blog. The first reason for asking was (the obvious) that I'd really like to introduce this brilliant but almost unknown band to a string of new people. The second reason was that I realized that it's no longer possible to buy any of the band's three albums (unless you want a 2nd hand copy). So by posting it wouldn't really be like I was violating any copy rights, but I still thought I should ask. So I did and I expected my chances of getting permission were pretty good, because posting a few songs wouldn't exactly be as if I was stealing the food from their mouths. The band quickly replied and this is the answer I received:

"If we had the option to sell the BMG/Zoo albums we would... Unfortunately, we don't own the rights or have permission to release those albums... Will they (BMG) ever re-release them? I wish I knew.. I've tried to contact them several times over the last few years and was told that our back catalog in the process of being re-released digitally through iTunes and other services, but we're still waiting.. Anyway, it's completely out of our hands..."

I guess you can say that the matter is undecided? So what do you think? Should I just post a few tracks, because it seems to me that those who own the rights to the albums don't really care?

It's possible to stream 4 tracks from the band's 1990 self-titled debut album (re-released as Another Minute in 1991/1992) here, but unfortunately the downloads aren't working.
