Lidt blandede bolcher her på faldrebet før jul. Muligvis dukker der en lille jule- og/eller nytårshilsen op medens vi endnu skriver 2012. Muligvis ikke, så dette kan (muligvis altså) være årets sidste indlæg. Så glædelig dit og data og så videre til alle jer to, som kigger forbi hver anden uge!

Nyt nummer med VETO kan streames via SoundCloud. Kan ikke helt blive enig med mig selv om det alene skyldes Troels' stemme, men synes Battle lyder meget VETOagtigt (du ve' så'n, elektronisk, svedigt og svingende), hvilket vel er svært at indvende noget imod?

Så vil du mig noget, så vent, vent, vent...Dette vil givetvis betyde, at et eller andet på niveau med guld vil gå min næse forbi, men vælger i stedet at se positivt på det, da det vel også må medføre, at jeg samtidig slipper for at stikke samme næse ned i bunker af det argeste lxxx...

Siden hvornår er Mad World blevet en "traditional Christmas song"? Åbenbart ved at udskifte "birthday" med "christmas"? Et eller andet sted er det vel ikke i orden?

Counting stars...

As always the world has been really busy, while I was away on holiday. Would be much appreciated if the world took a timely break every now and then as well, as it would make catching up so much easier. Instead of leaving me when the unpleasant feeling that there are lots and lots of things I’m going to miss, because I cannot read every mail, tweet, blog update etc. of the past two weeks. I know I post exactly the same story of whining every year, but I just can’t help myself. However I will from this moment on try my best to be positive and giddily happy about the many interesting things that have happen, during my holiday. No matter how numerous they may seem. Let’s check some of them out!

Florida based shoegaze/electronica quartet/quintet (someone please enlighten me) Purplespace has been so kind to mail me a copy of their new 5-track EP Eventually, Juliet…. According to the band the songs are “a bit slower and more organic (real drums, less synth & keys)”, when compared to previous recordings, but it probably requires more trained ears than mine to spot the difference. To me there’s not much new under the sun here (John – please don’t rip me to pieces), but as long as the songs continue to be this dreamy and beautiful, I see no reason for anything to change. I’ve been given permission to post a track off the EP, but I strongly recommend that you pick of the whole thing at iTunes or wherever you buy your digital downloads these days!

So I ended up not going on to the Jens Lekman concert at Vega on Monday evening after all. Passed my ticket on to this young fellow, whom I believe had a great time? Why I didn’t go? Monday was the first day at work following the holiday and no way would my (aging) body have accepted staying out late Monday night. Why buy a ticket in the first place then? I do strange things all the time, so you tell me! Oh! If you haven’t done so really, don’t forget to swap your email address for the gloriously wonderful new track by Mr. Lekman called The End of the World Is Bigger Than Love.

Endless is the number of Danish bands I’ve been trying to hype ever since the birth of this blog. And equally endless is the number of bands unable to (even remotely) match the hype. But the fast rising quartet Ginger Ninja is one of the rare exceptions and this new, very competent and free to download Eumig & Chinon remix of the band’s first single Sunshine (video) should only add to their growing popularity.

Though Danish trio Chadore is only a few songs old, I’m not afraid of touting them as yet another band to look out for (since I’m usually wrong anyway, why be afraid?). I featured the brilliant Den Dag a month and a half ago, and earlier today the band published this dance remix of (what I believe must be) new track Når Du Ser På Mig. Both tracks are catchy beyond belief (well almost), so please don’t let the Danish lyrics scare you away!

Here’s one from the good news department. VETO is back in the studio. The debut album was good, the second album was even better, so now please record a third one that is going to blow us all away!

A secret beer...

This one sounds familiar. Wife’s out, the kids are sleeping, the mailbox is bursting (or just about to) and I’ve found a beer in the fridge. And no; the post title certainly isn’t meant to be a joke, as all information on the beer label (enlarge the photo and perhaps you'll be able to see that yourself) has been printed using the Braille system. The beer has therefore been given the name "blindeøl", so calling it a “secret beer” can't be completely wrong? But as funny and interesting this might be, I'm afraid that it also means that my only option is to learn the system, if I want to know exactly what it is I’m drinking. Lazy as I am, I’m probably not going to bother, so I'll just drink and (hopefully) enjoy it. Definitely worth mentioning is that for every sold beer the brewery will donate 2 DKK to Dansk Blindesamfund....

SuperTroels, who hasn’t been using that alias for quite some time and instead preferred his real name Troels Abrahamsen, offers “a near final version” of new track Swaat as a free download. The final version will be included on his forthcoming album BLCK.

I don’t know how many times I’ve written this before, but I’ll never be a fan of remixes. More often than not the only thing a remix does is ruining the original track and I’ve never fully understood the purpose of this! The few remixes adding something to the original or at least being “listenable alternatives” are few and far between, but whenever I stumble upon one of those, I guess it’s somehow my “duty” to post it. And this recent remix of the Phoenix track Fences by Son Green definitely falls under the “listenable” category!

It’s been a while, since the last time I posted anything recommended by Rodolfo. But yesterday he sent a mail including the track Moving by Finnish band Delay Trees, which promptly made Peter response “very, very, VERY good”. So I simply had to give that track a listen and obviously Peter’s comment was spot on! Said track is not a free download, but luckily the equally excellent track About Brothers is. Both tracks are from the 7 track Self Construction EP, which was released last month (can be ordered directly from the band’s webpage).

Now here’s a real gem from the inbox. The infectious and energetic F.R.A.N.C.E. by London five piece them:youth. The band’s debut single Bows and Arrows will be out on Another Music = Another Kitchen Records on 25 May, so this is simply meant to be an appetizer. And such a brilliant starter it is that it has left me speculating how insanely fabulous the debut single has to be, since F.R.A.N.C.E. didn’t make the cut!

I have a staggering 2,725 myspace "friends" and yet I have difficulties finding more than a handful of bulletin posts of even remote interest? A bit of cleaning up among those so-called friends is what I need to do!

I have yet to order the new Over and Over album by The Legends, but these two short and noisy (but still incredibly melodic) sample tracks certainly makes it very tempting.

Silence Is A Rhythm Too posted the 12” version of Love Like Blood by Killing Joke a couple of days ago. …Blood was one of the anthems of my teenage years and to me it still ranks as one of the best and most haunting tracks ever.

I know that American Idiot is nearly 4 years old, but it’s been my most listened to album the past week. And it still blows me away.

Yesterday I received a promo copy of the forthcoming album by Navaro. Not sure what the title of the album will be and not sure it the band has made up their mind about this! The past two days I’ve been listening several times to the new Still Here EP by Swedish duo Kuryakin. The 5 track CDEP and 2 track 7” combines for 7 lovely indie/electronic pop tunes that are as refreshing as the coolest summer breeze. As mentioned yesterday it’s a new release by Shelflife Records, which now are responsible for two of the finest EP releases so far this year (including Downhill by DAYS).

Crushing Digits by VETO debuts at no. 2 in the Danish album chart this week. For several reasons that’s good news to me. Obviously because I like the album, but primarily because I hope that other smaller bands will be encouraged that success (even commercially) can be achieved through hard work.

So far I've been listening to the new VETO album Crushing Digits 5 times today, and to be honest, I’m really surprised how much I’m enjoying it. Cannot say that I was all that impressed by the debut and on their sophomore effort the band remains devoted to the indie rock/electronica sound of There’s A Beat In All Machines. However I still thought it was worth the gamble spending some hard earned cash on their new baby, and I’m happy I did, as (I’ll keep this simple) the individual songs on Digits are so much better than those on Machines, where the only song making a lasting impact (on me), was You Are A Knife. No sample MP3’s or video are available, but it’s possible to stream the first single Built To Fail at Myspace.

I need to do something about my mailbox. I seriously do. +700 mails are residing there and it certainly doesn't look as if I'll be able to work my way through them any time soon. The mails can be divided into several promo mails, some blog comments, more promo mails, a few Facebook messages, another bunch of promo mails, numerous music recommendations received from Chris, Peter, Rodolfo and J.A. as well as (you've already guessed it) a few more promo mails.

If you happen to be a regular visitor, you probably know by now that I'm a fan of the Canadian blog Chromewaves and yesterday I found the great news there that The Radio Dept. will be releasing their third album in May. I guess I was one of the few living souls who actually thought that Pet Grief was better than Lesser Matters, so it will be quiet interesting to hear in which direction the band has decided to move this time. The info was published in the band's Myspace blog on February 6, which made me go through my list of blog supscriptions or more exactly those lacking.

On February 18 the Velour album Undress Your Alibis will finally be released in Denmark. The timing isn't perfect as this is an album filled with the sound of summer. But the boys have been looking forward to this moment for more than two years, so I guess they cannot allow themselves to be too picky about the date.

Mymusic.dk - 2006 lists.....

The other day the excellent Danish music site Mymusic.dk posted the lists of the most downloaded tracks of 2006 in various genres. Unfortunately you have to be a registered member (and understand Danish) to be able to download the music. So I'm giving you a helping hand and posting a few of the more popular ones below.

This well-known track was the most downloaded in the rock genre. The world is already waiting for the next output! And giving away the first single and best track for free is the right attitude!

This was the most popular pop track. Wonder why, because this is really not my cup of tea.
