Emptying the mailbox (again)...

I really, really think that I've been good at cleaning the mailbox recently. In fact I think it would be fair to say that I've been damn efficient and today the number of mails in the inbox is only one third of what it used to be not too many nights ago. But one can never rest on the laurels, and the daily number of promo mails found in my mailbox equals the number of snotty noses every single child gets each winter. So never a quiet moment, and right now I'm once again busy downloading and listening. Check back later tonight, as something interesting might pop up..?

At first it sounded like another jangling indie pop tune and then it really did not.

Uptempo guitar pop tune of the infectious kind by this Nashville quartet (there's a slight twist of country inspiration).

Tonight has been surprisingly rewarding, as I’ve been listening to far more good than bad stuff. I cannot complaint, though this of course has prevented me from being my usual whining self.

The more I check the unknown bands playing at this year's Vesterbro Festival, the better the program looks.

The new fine tracks by Danish post rockers Mimas have already been posted by Frekvens and In a cyclone of stones, but good stuff deserves multiple postings.

I mentioned NY duo This Is Ivy League in a post last week and the more I listen to the self-titled album the more I'm convinced that this will be this year's summer album. Catchy melodies, jangling guitars and lovely harmonies - yummy!

The second single (and another freebie) Poets Dying from the forthcoming Björn Kleinhenz album Quietly Happy and Deep Inside is almost as good as the first single The Quest For Your Heart. Could very well have been the soundtrack of the summer along with This Is Ivy League, but it won't be released until September (on Tomt Recordings)!

Still Here by Kuryakin and Tour De Force by The Ruling Class are the two recent releases by the rejuvenated Shelflife Records. More on those, when I've "chewed" my way through both of them a few more times, but first listen left me impressed.

Paris - here we come...

Spring is an excellent time for traveling, and tomorrow the girls and I will be heading to Paris, on what will be the second of three trips this spring (the previous one, being the trip to Warsaw last month). This is the first time the two rascals are on a "real" visit to a larger city (Warsaw is pretty big, but we stayed at some friends' house outside the city centre), but since my wife and I have been to Paris a few times before, we have no strict schedule and no "must" sees, though we do plan to make it to the top of that tower you see in the picture. Should the best way to spend the days turn out to be playing in the parks - so be it! No matter what, I'm certain we'll have a great time! Will be back posting next Tuesday.

Danish one-man project Champagne Riot has mailed me information that an EP will be released on Shelflife Records this summer. Seems like the EP will be called Paris and I (!). Read more about it at the official webpage.

At times communication can be difficult. Oliver North Boy Choir mailed a couple of remixes last week and I listened to them, enjoyed them and did no further. Then yesterday emodreng & indiepige posted the remixes, which made me think that I could the same. Polite as I am, I did mail the band first asking if it was OK, and immediately received permission. So a go-ahead was probably hidden somewhere in the original mail, but apparently I just didn't get it?

New songs and some mixed stuff...

Below I've posted 5 new tracks found over at Myspace. The quality of the songs has indeed improved from the lowly 96 Kbps and the bitrates of the new songs are 128 Kbps or better. I still cannot figure out how to link directly to the songs (Chris is working on this), so I've had to upload the songs myself (hopefully no one minds?). The Myspace download function doesn't seem to be working perfectly, but hopefully they are trying to fix it, so we can return to "the good old days"!!!

Shoegazers Tearwave from US has posted two new ones. The band has recorded a fine cover of The Church's Under The Milky Way and Read Me is a really great shoegaze inspired track (noisy guitars, dreamy vocals and stuff). A full length CD has been recorded and that one should be a "must".

Alaska (Chris' guinea pigs) from Sweden is one more band in the ever growing line of fantastic Swedish indie pop band. A new EP should be just around the corner, and hopefully the rest of the tracks are as good as these. Originally recommended to Chris and me by J.A.
