25 years since the release of You and Me Both and I still have a soft spot for Yazoo. But not soft enough to make me post any of the remixes mailed to me the other day to promote the forthcoming release of the 4-disc box set In Your Room. The remixes are completely useless and are tagged as “spare remixes” by the label. No wonder!

Yesterday when checking out the Vesterbro Festival line-up, I came across Danish quartet Ginger Ninja. This is pop music with a capital P, but very catchy and not without a certain charm.

Two tracks...

Two of my favorite unsigned artists have each uploaded a new or (at least) previously unpublished song.

Lonely by UK indie poppers The Steadies was recorded during the making of the Sunnier Days to Come demo earlier this year, but has remained unpublished until recently. Apparently the band wasn't happy with the end result, but just like the rest of the songs from the band, I think this is absolutely wonderful stuff.

The super productive UK/Canadian duo The Papertiger Sound has published yet another new excellent track and I cannot help feeling that this band could release a new one every week if they wanted to! That glockenspiel is just lovely and adds a fine dimension to this otherwise quite electronic sounding track.

Going steady in the 1900s...

This morning when driving to work I suddenly realized that the summer is (almost) over. The leafs have started to switch colors and soon yellow and red will be the new blacks. In some ways my mind is torn, because as much as I love the sun (we didn't see it that often this summer though) and the long summer nights (most of them were depressingly wet this year), I'm also a kind of nocturnal animal that seems to prosper the darker it gets. I've spent many days in my life yawning and waiting for it to end (so I finally could get some sleep), but as soon as nighttime fell all signs of sleepiness suddenly disappeared. So while most people are preparing themselves for their annual depression, I cannot help being a little bit excited.

Several tracks by terrific, wonderful, kind, talented (you probably understand by now that I really like this band) UK indie pop band The Steadies are now available as free downloads over at Last.fm. This is beautiful folk inspired indie pop songs with violins, flutes and stuff.

Chicago based band The 1900s is already big in the bloggerworld, but up till now completely unknown to me, as I always seem to shy away from bands being "over-hyped". But the other day I received a promotion mail containing a few songs, so I thought why not give them a listen? I did just that and so far I really like what I've heard. On the band's Myspace profile Fleetwood Mac and The Velvet Underground are listed as influences, and if you imagine an updated mix of the sound of those two classic acts, you're not that far away from the psychedelic pop sound of The 1900s. The band's debut album Cold & Kind will be released October 2 on Parasol Records.

Still 3 more weeks to go before the new I Am Bones album The Greater Good will be released, but the band does its best to sweeten the waiting time, by giving away another album track for free.

The Steadies - New EP

Wonderful UK indie pop band The Steadies has uploaded the 4 new tracks from the band's forthcoming EP to Myspace (as free downloads of course). These are really friendly people and promise to send the EP to anyone interested, once the sleeve is finished. So if you love gorgeous, laid-back and utterly beautiful indie pop with acoustic guitars, flute, violins etc.; look no further. The Steadies...

I mentioned UK band The Steadies in the blog a while back, and since then the band has been so kind to send me a copy of their Demo EP. Equally generous the band given me permission to upload and post the songs in a decent quality for you to download and enjoy. If you missed The Steadies the first time around, you should hurry up and check them out, because (as I wrote back then) this band writes simply beautiful and lovely indie pop/folk songs.

The Steadies

I'm not sure exactly how it happened, but tonight I somehow came across the brilliant London based 6-piece The Steadies. I only had to listen to 10 seconds of the first track to realize that these songs would create the perfect soundtrack to this lazy Friday evening. Four beautiful tracks, all of them taken from the band's EP (name?), are available as free downloads (in Myspace "quality") and this is indie pop/folk music so lovely that it is.....well; just lovely. When I did a little search, I learned that the band was featured over at Indie MP3 a couple of months ago, but hopefully they don't mind me mentioning them as well?
