Will I ever learn to make up my mind? In April I wrote that I thought the Lykke Li album Youth Novels was plain boring. But before making my year-end list, I thought I should give it another listen and suddenly find myself completely in love with it! Apparently I can’t always tell the difference between boring and beautiful? D’oh!

Two tracks from the forthcoming Demons Are Real EP I mentioned yesterday can now be streamed at Myspace. I'm afraid that the jury is still out!

Completely forgot to mention in the same post yesterday that the excellent indie poppers No and the Maybes will be supporting moi Caprice tomorrow night. The band gave a really fine performance at this year’s Vesterbro Festival (now known as Start! Festival) and with plenty of gigs under their belt since the release of the self-titled album in October I expect them to (at least) match that one.

Danish New Order/Joy Division inspired indie rock trio Demons Are Real will release a 5 track EP named The Blessing Of Sorrow on February 2nd. They’ve previously promised that a new release would include more “evil sounding” guitars, so it will be quite interesting to hear if the band has moved in completely different direction. All 6 tracks of the band’s previous (and absolutely terrific) EP Hum Speed On/Off are free to download at BandBase.

I received the great news yesterday that we'll soon hear new material from Danish indie rock band Demons Are Real. More "evil sounding" guitars are promised on the new songs, though I really like the Joy Division inspired sound on the Hum Speed On/Off EP (all 6 tracks available for free from the band's webpage).

No - I haven't forgotten about Gaffa's demo of the month (June). The quartet Ave is this month's pick and the band's demo Follow Your Saint receives the remarkable 6 stars out of 6. The band is compared to Kashmir and Radiohead, and the music is the dark, epic and gorgeous kind that just never seems to stop growing.

Some of you might remember the Danish duo Tetris = Therapy that I mentioned some time ago? One of the band members (Rune) participates in a few other band projects, of which the duo Sometimes has caught my attention. The band name is an obvious My Bloody Valentine reference and the music is inspired by some of the major shoegaze bands of the 80's and 90's (Slowdive, MBV, Ride etc.). Danish shoegaze bands are few and far between (or at least I'm not very good at finding them), so I'll definitely follow this duo closely hoping that it will evolve into something more serious than just a part time project.

The 6 track demo EP Hum Speed On/Off by Demons Are Real arrived in the mailbox the other day. This Danish Joy Division/New Order quartet is absolutely ace and I seriously believe that the band will be signed by a record label very soon!

Demons Are Real

Another band who participated in the Starfighters contest I mentioned yesterday was quartet Demons Are Real. The band didn't finish in the top 3, which immediately makes me jump to the conclusion, that there must be more music talents in Denmark than ever before. I've read in a review somewhere that one of the major complaints about the band is that you have heard this type of music lots of times before (dark and depressive music, which is perfect for rainy days). Fair enough. Every second new band these days claim to be inspired by New Order, Joy Division, The Cure and the likes, and though I guess some kind of "retro-rock" will always exist, it's perhaps time for upcoming bands to find new sources of inspiration? Oh well. I honestly don't care as long as the bands keep creating interesting sounds and Demons Are Real sure does, and this is yet another Danish band with, what seems like, endless potential!
