Remix me...

Danish legends Laid Back has remixed the Lars and The Hands of Light track Me Me Me. The remix features vocals from John Guldberg and has that classic Laid Back feel to it. Even I, who’s a notorious non-fan of remixes, cannot ignore how utterly cool this one is.

No Blood in Bones and Fontän will be playing at Studenterhuset in Copenhagen Friday evening. The No Blood in Bones set will only consist of 5 songs, but since Fontän sounds pretty cool as well (today is the first time I’ve ever listened to them), I’m seriously considering going!

RCRD LBL shares a The Juan MacLean remix of the Spleen United track Suburbia. Great seeing the band getting some well deserved exposure on a prominent website, though, I cannot honestly say that I like the remix!

Since this has more or less turned into a remix themed post, this remix of the Animal Collective track My Girls is surprisingly listenable. 2 fine remixes in the same post has to be a personal best!

Indie label 24 Hour Service Station will release a 32 track double CD named Ceremony - a New Order tribute - on February 20. The release is dedicated to the late Tony Wilson and contains 31 cover versions of various New Order tracks (by various artists) as well as “a sonically enhanced spoken word dedication to Tony Wilson to introduce the record” by Peter Hook.

On the radio this morning...

Just a coincidence I know, because this track has been getting plenty of airplay. Still think it's quite funny (to me at least) or nice maybe that I mentioned Lars and The Hands of Light in the blog yesterday and then heard them on the radio this morning.

I’m sharper than ever! Brought The xx debut album with me to work this morning, so I could give it a few listens. Just forgot to check whether the CD was in the sleeve or still in the CD player. You’ve probably guessed it. The sleeve is here, the CD is at home, which means that there will be no The xx listening for me today.

Still a little bit depressed that I’m going to miss the Crunchy Frog 15 year anniversary party on Saturday. Missing the EPO-555 farewell concert obviously hurts (and probably will for some time), but missing the debut concert of Lars and The Hands of Light feels pretty bad as well.

I’ve had the great fortune today to listen to the forthcoming single Sea of Regrets by I Like Trains and it’s an absolute monster of beauty running for nearly 6 minutes. The single will be released October 12 and is the first single from the band’s second album, which should be out some time early next year. Daily Motion has a (rather poorly sounding) live video of the song.

The Ski Bunny Remix of the forthcoming them:youth single Halo is on constant rotation this afternoon. Just like the previous track F.R.A.N.C.E., which I posted some months ago, the remix of Halo is simply infectious and a much welcomed infusion of energy. The single will be out September 28 on Dirty Boots Records.

Me Me Me...

Here’s a track found in a mail some time ago, which I instantly liked so much that I had to ask for permission to share it. I received that permission within hours, but for whatever odd reason I have never gotten around to actually posting it. Then Saturday I sort of got a “in your face” reminder, as the song was aired on national radio, so I made a vow that it would be included in my next post, before the song becomes old news. The song in question is the first single Me Me Me from Danish quartet Lars and The Hands of Light, and it’s a quite laid back, acoustic dominated track with a real catching chorus. Name of frontman Lars Vognstrup probably should have rung a bell (shame on me for my ignorance I guess), but he happens to be an ex-Wolfkin and Money Your Love band member, so he’s hardly a newcomer to the business. The band is the most recent band signed by Crunchy Frog and a debut album is in the making with an expected release date some time this fall.

The reviews of the new Jong Pang album Love, which was released yesterday, are somewhat lukewarm, but since The William Blakes frontman Kristian Leth insists that this is the best album of the year, it has now been ordered, as I obviously don't want to risk missing out on something great.

Chromewaves is the grand cru among music blogs and although the much hyped and talked about duo The Big Pink had been featured on just about every music blog imaginable, it wasn’t until I read this “introduction” that I actually thought it worthwhile checking them out. Truly great stuff and yet another album added to the shopping list.

The Sky Drops debut album Bourgeois Beat is out today (available from the band's website) and first promo track Swimming With Fishes simply merges the best of indie pop and shoegaze. Without question something that needs to be checked out further.
