No blood...

Apparently former Green Concorde frontman Morten Espersen Dam is no longer a part of No Blood In Bones. Always sad/frustrating to see a talented band split up/fall apart, though there obviously is an explanation behind this "artistic/creative disagreements". Will be missed, but already looking forward to the next project...whatever that might turn out to be.

Danish duo No Blood In Bones has been pretty quiet since they released their debut EP exactly one year ago. But now they are back sharing a new track (and video) called The Moonlit Sea. It’s gorgeous, grand, haunting etc. and really, really cool!

Mails, mails, mails. It’s the same old story. And with SXSW just around the corner it’s perhaps worse than ever (takes some imagination I know, but it's true). Lots of people wanting to meet and say hi in Austin, but sadly no mail so far has included a plane ticket etc. So as much as I’d love to go, it just ain’t gonna happen!!

Danish label music for dreams has mailed this track from the Giana Factory debut EP Bloody Game to post and share. Some remixes in the mail as well, but quite typical me ignoring those (unlike a few other bloggers). Is this a sign of an album being in the making? Let's hope so!

Danish legends Laid Back has remixed the Lars and The Hands of Light track Me Me Me. The remix features vocals from John Guldberg and has that classic Laid Back feel to it. Even I, who’s a notorious non-fan of remixes, cannot ignore how utterly cool this one is.

No Blood in Bones and Fontän will be playing at Studenterhuset in Copenhagen Friday evening. The No Blood in Bones set will only consist of 5 songs, but since Fontän sounds pretty cool as well (today is the first time I’ve ever listened to them), I’m seriously considering going!

RCRD LBL shares a The Juan MacLean remix of the Spleen United track Suburbia. Great seeing the band getting some well deserved exposure on a prominent website, though, I cannot honestly say that I like the remix!

Since this has more or less turned into a remix themed post, this remix of the Animal Collective track My Girls is surprisingly listenable. 2 fine remixes in the same post has to be a personal best!

Indie label 24 Hour Service Station will release a 32 track double CD named Ceremony - a New Order tribute - on February 20. The release is dedicated to the late Tony Wilson and contains 31 cover versions of various New Order tracks (by various artists) as well as “a sonically enhanced spoken word dedication to Tony Wilson to introduce the record” by Peter Hook.

No Blood In Bones...

Danish duo No Blood In Bones announced its existence in May/June last year, and it didn’t take long before the band caught a lot of people’s attention and among other things was featured as “band of the week” at BandBase.dk. A few months later the band was signed by Morningside Records, and now the duo is ready to release a self-titled debut EP, which will be available on vinyl as well as digital download some time in February. If you (by any chance) recall my first short take on the band, I called the music "more pop and less rock", when comparing it to Green Concorde, which back then seemed like an obvious thing to do, as that band used to be fronted by Morten Espersen Dam, who makes up half of the No Blood In Bones duo (Sven Busck Andersen being the second half). But Green Concorde split up and to Mr. Dam that meant a goodbye to the darker, post-punk influenced sound and a hello to a more playful and diverse pop-inspired sound. At least that’s the impression you get when listening to the two promo tracks posted below, as Headphones is energetic and insisting, whereas Safe Way Out is a more dreamy and repetitive electronic piece. A third track I am a Statue can be streamed at Myspace and reveals that the duo has a quiet and melancholic side as well! I haven’t seen a track-list, so I don’t know if all three tracks are included on the EP. If they are, the release could very well end up being a rather varied experience, but as long as all songs are this good, the duo can pretty much do whatever they want to for all I care.

Unlike previous years I’m not going to write a lengthy report from this year’s Start! (previously Vesterbro) Festival. Primarily because I’m afraid that most of it will be spent on discussing the line-up and the criteria used for selecting the artists. So no in-depth analysis this year I’m afraid. But fact is that I was there, and during the three days I heard lots of music of varying quality and got introduced to a string of (to me at least) unfamiliar artists. A few made a good impression and will perhaps be included in a blogpost some fine day. Several made a not so good impression and most likely will never be featured around here. Those artists I knew beforehand did (for most parts) a fine job and I will continue following them and bring updates whenever there is something interesting to tell. The always reliable Ginger Ninja (picture) was the last band I saw at this year’s festival and whenever the band releases a debut album, it will be most welcomed.

New, small indie label Odd Box Records had the busiest of days yesterday and announced three new releases!

The Really Like to See You Again 12” single by Thieves Like Us will be out on Shelflife Records tomorrow. 500 copies have been pressed, so act swiftly!

I like my hometown. I really do. It’s beautiful and historical, and enough things are happening here to make it a great place to live. Unfortunately its inhabitants don’t seem to appreciate music all that much. Unless of course some useless cover band is playing or one of our nation’s many dinosaurs (you know – those artists, who have been around for the past three our four decades) are paying us a visit. Then people show up in bunches. But when fairly unknown artists, who are trying to make a living playing their self-written music, are coming to town, you can bet the venue will be close to empty (or the whole thing will be cancelled). No more whining about this cancellation, but as mentioned in a previous post, Mushi was playing at Annexet Saturday evening, which at least offered a nice alternative. Around midnight (when the past Saturday became Sunday) a friend and I headed for the bar, paid the entrance fee, just to learn that a total of 5 (five!) persons were there. Later I found out that three of those were friends of the band, so a smashing total of 2 locals had shown up! In all fairness, more people showed up later, but a no point was there more than 20 people at the bar (including the 4 band members and the people working in the bar). Despite the lack of audience and atmosphere, the band nonetheless and quite impressively delivered a fine performance, which (to me at least) proved that Rasmus (the man behind the alias) is an excellent songwriter.

Start! Festival begins (simply refuse to use the word "starts") this afternoon. Tonight I'm planning to see Diefenbach, Among Relatives, Queens Garden and probably a few other names along the way as well. One funny (and very persistent) rumor is that the band The Descendants of King Canute (scheduled to play at 11 tonight) should actually be Nephew in disguise. Will be much wiser tonight!

It really doesn't sound like anything from either Frengers or Glass Handed Kites. Still the new track Introducing Palace Players by Mew is bloody marvellous and expectations for No More Stories are sky high.

Danish 6-piece A Sunday Honeymoon jumped onto my radar yesterday and has pretty much stayed there every since. The band’s music is quite a mixed bag and if you check the influences the list includes the likes of Springsteen, The Strokes and Field Mice. And you could indeed say that the music sounds like a clone of all those three artists. The three track mini-EP Yuzo Citrus is free to download, which I strongly recommend you to do.
