SoundCloud ser nu helt anderledes og ganske så forkert ud...en god huskeregel er, at gamle hunde meget nødigt vil lære at sidde, og at fjolser som undertegnede ikke bryder sig om forandringer. Så re-design og alt det der er mægtig fint, men for helvede, hvor er det besværligt (sagde jeg og tog mig nok et syrligt drop). Apropos SoundCloud. Da vi er så heldige at benytte os af det helt forrygende Internet Explorer her på arbejde, kan jeg ikke se de numre fra SoundCloud som jeg "embedder". Håber så sandelig, at alle andre kan!

The Radio Dept. – The Video Dept....

J.A. posted this video at Facebook yesterday and at first I thought “hey cool! It’s a new video by The Radio Dept.!” (And you can easily add a few more “cools” to that). However now that I’ve visited the YouTube page (seeing that the number of people who’s been watching is atypically low) and scanned various webpages for information, I doubt that this is actually an official video. But the more I watch it the more I keep thinking that the blurry video suits the distorted sound really well, and thus would be a perfect pick as an official one. So let’s hope it (somehow) catches that band’s attention and gets their approval!

With their new track The new improved hypocrisy, The Radio Dept. shares their thoughts on the upcoming Swedish election. Cannot say I'm all that crazy about bands getting political, but when the message is accompanied by a song this gorgeous…oh well!

I don’t like it like this...

Ok. So I went to see The Radio Dept. perform at an (after all) sold out Lille Vega on Saturday evening. Not with the biggest of expectations, as I had read somewhere (here) that the band was a terrible live act. Though not exactly without expectations either, as the band has been number two on my list of artists I want to see (second only to Richard Hawley) for the past several years. But now, 3 days later, I’m still trying to absorb what I experienced, as I cannot make up my mind whether I should be disappointed or simply accept that we got exactly the performance we could realistically expect? During the 45-50 minutes (including sound checks in between songs) the band spent on stage they performed 12 songs and turned the whole place into an inferno of noise. The later I sincerely hope was a decision made by the band (rather than adding more fuel to the “terrible live act” debate) and something I can “live” with, although I (as one of the few) will forever prefer the more polished Pet Grief to the noisier Lesser Matters. However the fact that just 12 songs were performed made me rather dissatisfied at first; especially with just one track from Pet Grief being included in the set. But having checked setlists, bootlegs, blogs etc. afterwards, I’ve come to the understanding that no matter what you hope for; 50 minutes is what you usually get. So being critical is easy. Doing one’s homework is sometimes a tad more difficult. But had I done it properly, I probably would have known just a little bit better what to expect! One final remark; despite its many omissions I cannot think of any songs I wish hadn’t been included in the setlist, which I (after all) see as the perfect proof of what a truly remarkable band this is!

The worst taste in music...

Amazingly tickets are still available for the The Radio Dept. concert at Lille Vega on Saturday. One of the best bands to visit Denmark this year and they cannot sell out the damn venue? The music taste of the Danes just never ceases to disappoint me!

Come to think of it, I’m somewhat surprised that I don’t get contacted more often by bands via Last.fm, as this service should give bands (and others) a pretty good idea of the chances of me liking their music. That's probably why US shoegazers The Band in Heaven decided to send me a mail suggesting that I should give their music a listen. So I did and I quite like it. Especially this Cranberries cover is pretty good. More songs are free to download from bandcamp.

VolcanoFest...?

Who would have possibly thought that a volcano in Iceland could end up having an impact on Copenhagen Popfest? But the ash cloud created by the volcano eruption at Eyjafjallajökull has lead to a cancellation of all air traffic in and out of Denmark today (actually no one seems to have any idea, when the airspace over Denmark is going to re-open) and consequently forced a trio of bands to pull out of the event, because of those cancelled flights. Equally bad is the string of foreign visitors, who won’t be coming either for the exact same reason. Nature probably doesn’t care, but your timing really sucks!

But the Popfest will still take place, despite the pull-outs the line-up remains competent and there should be plenty of tickets available. So why not show up (if you happen to be in Copenhagen anyway)?

And now to something completely different....a few songs...

Labrador shares the brand new and really fine single The Night Before The Funeral by The Mary Onettes. The band sounds very much like itself on this one, which I guess is quite a quality stamp!

Friday night blogging...

Another one of those posts that should look vastly familiar to regulars. Wife’s out with the girls sipping Strawberry Daiquiris and the kids are watching TV (and before long they’ll be sleeping), so time to read mails, check a few blogs, scan twitter, hear some music and maybe even have a beer. Plus post a few bits and pieces of course!

Easter is soon upon us, so blog post entries will be irregular for the next couple of weeks. Btw. This has to be one of the best songs with “Easter” in the title.

Glenn, who used to be in the now split up Velour, has formed a new band named The New Investors. Describing their music as “chamber, disco-pop”, and though the first batch of demos don’t quite have that immediate charm that used to be the Velour trademark, they nonetheless bode really well for the future.

Sipping Champagne at the Radio Club...

Cannot recall ever being this tense and alert, as I spent the past weekend constantly monitoring the web for any (and I really mean any!) information regarding tickets for The Radio Dept. concert on May 15. Not that I was expecting to find any news, as tickets never go on sale during weekends, but nonetheless I was pathetically anxious. Predictably tickets became available this morning and now that tickets have been purchased, it’s high time to return to being my old self.

Despite another two months left until it's officially released, it does seem like Clinging To A Scheme has leaked? Whether or not it is in fact the album is obviously impossible to determine, but the songs (the two promo tracks aside) are all new to me, so it could very well be that this is indeed the album (if so - why not release it now?). Unless of course some prankster is pulling our legs! Leak or not! I’m definitely going to buy the album!

And those, I promise, will be the last words on The Radio Dept. for a good while.

Label mates Club 8 shares new single Western Hospitality. Sure it’s really nice, but each time I listen to it, I can’t help thinking of this one. Though I’m probably the only one who can hear any similarities!

As previously mentioned it is Stefan of Northern Portrait, who does the singing, and the result of this highly intriguing collaboration is an absolutely glorious pop tune. A video for the song is in the making, but when/if the track will be released remains unresolved for now (or at least has not been made public). Though Shelflife or Matinée seem like real good and fairly obvious bets (just trying to stir up some rumors)! Don't you think?

A house full of girls...

I assure you that the above title sounds a lot more interesting than is actually the case. My wife has invited five friends over for an all-girl dinner, and I’m looking after the kiddos. Or sort of looking after, as they are busy watching some Barbie flick. So as long as I’m keeping a low profile and minding my own business everyone should be happy. And since I have my laptop and an (so-so working) internet connection, this is exactly what I intend to do! Though at some point, I’m probably going to risk an eye and try to get my hands on a glass of red wine.

But now I’m going to check out some mails, news, blogs etc. and perhaps add something to this post should anything of interest pop up.

Radio scheme...

New track Heaven’s on Fire from the much talked about, highly anticipated and long delayed Clinging To a Scheme album is all over the blogosphere. I preferred (and still prefer) the Pet Grief version of The Radio Dept. rather than the Lesser Matters one, and the first two tracks off the album (David being the first) do indicate that Clinging could very well end up being a close relative to Pet Grief. If true that is definitely great news. Not so great is that the release date has once again (but hardly surprising) been pushed further back. But as a small consolation an actual release date (April 21) has now been set, which I believe must be the first time happening ever since we started talking about the album. When was that exactly? Early 2008?

Catching a cold and am sneezing every 30 second; or at least it feels like every half minute. I’m fully aware that right now I’m paying the price for my behavior Saturday evening (and night for that matter), where I was running around outside in the cold drinking and partying like an 18 year old, and completely ignoring that I am in fact a middle-aged man, who should always go to bed before 10 pm, never leave the house when it’s freezing and refrain from drinking anything stronger than mineral water. Luckily I have my own office, so my colleagues don’t have to watch me suffer through my misery. And I felt even worse yesterday, where I was eerily close to dying! I swear I was! Oh man! Will I ever learn? Probably not!

Not being the cleverest of people (the above should provide you with all the proof you need) and incredibly naive as well, I started searching for news on that Clinging to a Scheme album. But there was no unexpected Christmas present for us, as Labrador still lists March next year as the (expected?) time of its release. But please! No more postponing!

According to Tower of Foil frontman Daniel Björck the band has mailed their debut album to the label. That’s all the information available, but still sufficient to be classified as great news!

No quite sure if this is official yet, but I’ve been told that Moto Boy will release his sophomore album in Denmark on March 1 next year on Slow Shark Records (and probably in Sweden as well on Song I Wish I Had Written). I’m still trying to recover from the weekend. Too much to drink combined with various physical activities (go-carting, playing basketball etc.) is a lethal cocktail. Speaking of expectations, I have to admit that I’m a bit underwhelmed by the new single Puzzles by The Mary Onettes. It’s really nice and all that, but I know it’s all my fault as I’m expecting each new song by the band to (at least) match Explosions. And of course I know it's a longshot, as it’s more than difficult to imagine how the band could possibly write a more perfect pop song than said Explosions (watch the video below and agree!).

At the risk of losing whatever credibility I may have left, I’m still not afraid to shout out in public that (this is my opinion of course) 21st Century Breakdown is brilliant, though not quite as fantastic as American Idiot. At least not yet.

Entakt frontman Jonas tested the “live blogging” (or whatever it’s supposed to be called) concept last night. And it ended up being a quite interesting read!

Start! Festival announced yesterday that 10 new names have been added to the line-up. I can see that Outlandish is one of them, but who are the other 9?

Perhaps the quintet Nomotion is one of them? At least I cannot recall seeing their name in the line-up before, so I’ve been giving them a few listens to see, if they should be added to my “must-see” list. The band’s britpop inspired songs are really likeable, but at the same time sound like something we’ve heard lots of times before. So for now I remain undecided.

Sweden's Kamera has mailed me their recent single Dead Man Walking. It's taken from the band's new (and second) album Blank Expressions, which is released today. And if it wasn't because of my snotty nose, I'd probably go to Helsingborg tonight to see them live at The Tivoli, as I'm really enjoying the band's 80's inspired new-wave/pop.
